From YKTTW

Mike Rosoft: The Discworld examples have reminded me another one - I don't know if Fan Fiction counts ... In The Blood is based on the premise that Sam Vimes was infected with lycanthropy in The Fifth Elephant. He is able to defeat the curse by grabbing his silver cigar case with one hand, the silver handle of his truncheon with the other, and stepping into broad moonlight.

Sky Blue: Moved the following entry off the main page so someone can fix its grammar ("when the band reformed in the early 2000's and a hip replacement operaion [sic]" lost me completely). Please note: as a self-respecting Grammar Nazi, I feel obliged to point out that what follows was not written by me:

  • Motley Crue Guitarist Mick Mars has struggled with a condition called ankylosing spondylitis for most of his life. This disease is a form of arthritis that causes the ligaments in the lower spine to fuse with the bone. His condition got so bad that when the band split up, he reportedly gave up guitar playing. However, when the band reformed in December 2004 (after he had hip replacement surgery) he decided to take up playing again, saying that "he'll be damned if it (the disease) was gonna have his soul too". He is still one of the greatest guitar players out there.

Sky Blue: OK, me again. Didn't want to delete that entry completely, because it does fit the trope — and with decent editing, it'll actually be a pretty good example. It's just not up to what should be on the main trope page just yet.
