Kizor: Once I'm done with Precursors, above, does the high school science teacher merit a mention on its own? The one whose skill the world has never seen before but who can't get a single experiment done without blowing something up? The one who stores uranium in the back room and left university after demolishing a building? There's elements of The Professor, The Mad Hatter and Mad Scientist there. (Just thought I'd mention: The rather odd webcomic El Goonish Shive has a fun subversion, though small enough to be possibly unintentional. While the main cast has to contend with transformation guns, magical duplicates and transdimensional goo, the teacher is a perfectly normal person who's exasperated at the way they keep on breaking the laws of physics and miffed at a main character for levitating in public.)
