From YKTTW

From Naming Kids After Dead Friends Discussion:
Nevrmore: This has got to rank as one of the most unimaginative trope names ever.

Zeta: Agreed! Rename it to something else? Name From The Grave? Got It Off A Tombstone?

Darmok: What about Well He Wasnt Using It Any More?

Mister Six: BIG love for Well He Wasnt Using It Any More. It doesn't exactly describe the trope but it's too funny to pass up.

Lale: I've got a problem with "doesn't descrobe the trope", as well as the old wiki apostrophe problem.

Shire Nomad: Named In His Honor? Named In His Memory? Big Name To Fill?

SAMAS: I like those.

HeartBurn Kid: How about Big Shoes to Fill? I know that there's not any literal shoes, but...

SAMAS: That's a little too wide-reaching for just this, but... you know what? This really needs to be YKTTW-ed right now.

Scrounge: That Dune example just seems to me like Paul's an idiot. You'd think after the second one with that name dies, you'd stop using it. I don'r follow Dune... does that second kid live long enough to learn to walk?

SillyDan: Actually, the third Leto becomes God-Emperor of the galaxy, reigning for thousands of years as a living god. Third time's the charm, I guess.

Kilyle: I just realized for the first time that Harry Potter includes versions of his parents but no namesake for Sirius. Looks like the beloved godfather got jilted... or shafted... or whatever the right word is.

savage: Didn't feel this warranted a mention on the actual page, but as soon as I saw the title Dead Guy Junior I immediately thought of the Julie of the Wolves example.

Daibhid C:
  • Continuity differences in the James Bond films gave us Quarrel and Quarrel Jr. - the latter appearing in Live And Let Die since that novel came before Dr No, where Quarrel dies on the approach to Crab Key. Thank you, Irregular Webcomic.
  • Done in one episode of The Simpsons, where Frank Grimes's son, Frank Grimes Jr. tries to avenge his father by killing Homer.
Not actually examples, they were named after a parent who, by the time of the story, happens to be dead. Maybe we should have called it Naming Kids After Dead Friends...

Jack Butler: Both of the examples you cut are good examples of this trope, and I don't see your point. I'm restoring them. In addition, the "example" you added was no example at all, because he's still alive despite being named after himself. This is when a child is named after a dead person.
