Does the Alan Dean Foster example belong? Do we want this to be about all bug aliens, or just the ones that fit the evil-swarm stereotype? I think there are probably plenty of exceptions to the type - the Grubs and Nestbuilders in Alastair Reynolds's books, that one race shown in a briefing in Old Man's War, and others under Starfish Aliens. --Document N
