Ununnilium: Taking out:

  • Sphinx - Seen only in the one famous myth with Oedipus and the question whose answer everyone knows (and yet manages to stump the characters every time it comes up). Committed suicide, yet is the mother of dozens of lesser sphinxes.

...because you're forgetting about the multitude of sphinxes in Egyptian myth.

Guesss Who: They weren't the same kind, though.

Ojuice5001: The Greek Sphinx was based on the Egyptian sphinxes, but Sophocles may not have realized that the Egyptian version wasn't a unique monster like many of his own Greek monsters. Which makes this the same kind of Adaptation Decay as the other examples of the trope, but in reverse. I say put it back.
