It\'s not well liked for being a Superhero story, just for being a good movie.
Yeah, I got that, but I still don\'t really see what makes it stand out as THAT good or game-changing.

To me, what makes it stand out is not that it\'s about a superhero family. It\'s about a family... who happen to be superheroes. It\'s a minor distinction but makes a big difference, to my mind. It\'s more of a deconstruction than anything, hence it keeps the set up pretty simplistic; how many superheroes actually have a real family? Not like Batman and his crowd of sidekicks, an actual, real flesh and blood family? Not many. And outside of the Fantastic Four, even fewer of them are well known or made much impact. I think it treads fresher ground than you may think, or maybe I just read more (too much even) into it.
It\'s one of my favourite movies, ever, so I guess it\'s a real case of varying mileage than anything else.

Yeah, viewing it as a family film who happens to be superheroes changes much of the perspective. Recall that there\'s actually fairly few action scenes in the beginning; after the prologue there isn\'t a single fight until the first Omnidroid encounter, halfway through the movie. So it\'s rather a story about humans learning to use their traits and weaknesses.
The review isn\'t very clear about where it\'s recognized these tropes before, but I\'m pretty sure \"superhero fashion designer\" gets some points for creativity.

If it counts for anything, I really hate superhero stories in general, and yet I think this is Pixar\'s second-best movie (the first being Ratatouille), not coincidentally also made by Brad Bird.
Every scene is just so well-done, it manages to have great action with being a mindless summer blockbuster, etc. We need more MOVIES like this, not just superhero movies.
This is absolutely a family film, the superpowers just amplify all their differences and conflicts more.
It\'s a damn great film in most people\'s eyes.

I don't really get why so many people love it
The Incredibles is one of these movies, along with Kingsman: The Secret Service, that everyone loves but I find just "meh". Don't get me wrong, the movie hardly is bad; the animation, though not my style (I don't really like CGI animation), is pretty good, the humor is decent, it has a good balance of comedy and drama. Overall, it's pretty well-done. However, my problem with it is that, frankly, as far as superhero stories go... it brings nothing new to the table.
I have been a superhero fan since I was a kid, making me well-versed in superhero tropes. And as such, I can say without a doubt that for all the talk about how ground-breaking this movie is, everything in it has been done before. This movie is almost entirely made of superhero cliché that already were outdated even when the movie came out. Not even of the fun kind; Syndrome is your typical former fanboy turned supervillain, a concept that keeps being done no matter how ludicrous and cheesy it feels, for reasons that ellude me. His origin incorporate the classic "you have no power so you are worthless" argument, which I always found laughably invalid, seeing how one of the first two and most popular superheroes in the world never had power. Superheroes retiring to deal with their family only to come back later isn't anything new either, nor is the idea to make a superhero family. Even design-wise, the movie feels somewhat generic; the heroes all wear the same costumes, and the design is kinda uncreative.
Maybe I don't get it. Maybe there is some kind of brillance in this movie that just elluded me. But as far as I saw, this is just an average (if enjoyable) movie, and doesn't really live up to its hype.
