A Return To Form... Mostly.

Okay, I remember hearing about this show a while before it was announced. When I saw a clip on it on Youtube, I wasn't impressed by the art style. I had even less hope for the show when I found out that one of the producers was Michael Jelenic, the producer and writer for Teen Titans Go!. But I always believed that you need to see things for yourself before making judgment calls. Adhering to said belief, I watched both episodes of the show. My verdict? It's a step down from Mystery Incoporated, but it's still watchable. To sum up this show in few words, it's Family Guy dressed up as Scooby-Doo.

  • Pros:
    • The cast from Mystery Incoporated reprise their roles, with the exception of Velma.
    • The humor is mostly okay, though it tends to be random and will occasionally rely on Black Comedy.

  • Cons:
    • The character designs. I normally don't care about art style and animation unless it is obviously terrible. This is one of those times. I'm just gonna be blunt: These guys are UGLY! Like I said, if you were to put these guys in a Family Guy episode, they'd fit right in.
    • The Flanderization of the main cast. All of them, with the exception of Shaggy and Scooby who are mostly the same, have been exaggerated in various ways:
      • Fred has undergone reverse-Flanderization, going from the lovable, trap-obsessed oaf to The Generic Guy he usually is. He's also more cynical and comes off as a Jerkass.
      • Velma is now a stereotypical nerd rather than the snarky, sassy girl from the previous show.
      • But the title of "Most Flanderized Character" hands down goes to... DAPHNE! Good motherfucking God! Daphne was always a bit ditsy, but this Daphne needs to be in a mental asylum. Think Starfire from TTG and Pinkie Pie from FiM and take it Up to Eleven and you got her. She's more like a Daphne In-Name-Only.

Conclusion: If you're expecting dark themes, Character Development, and overarching plots, you're better off watching Gravity Falls. If you want a purely comedic show, then this is for you. For everyone else, lower your expectations.

Or they could watch Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated which gives the entire gang a lot more character development.

I would just like to point out that the VA for Daphne is the same person than in Mystery Incorporated, Grey Griffin (or Grey de Lisle).
