I know for a fact that both love interests really are base-breakers, as is the concept of giving a Megaten protagonist a love interest, period. The total reversal is definitely suspect, though.

I'm also going to return her to Tier Induced Scrappy, because she only gets her Awakening on one route, and even then it's at the very end of the game meaning she spends 95% of the game as a useless partner... and even then her demons can ignore her, wasting a partner turn.

I'm by no means an Asahi fanboy, but don't her demons listen to her 100% of the time when she gets her Awakening? It might be wrong considering the information is from a board on GameFAQs.

Actually, I'm going based off of information from a TV Tropes forum, but it could certainly be wrong. I've never used Asahi post-Awakening so I personally can't be sure (to be honest, I sort of stopped playing the game at her awakening. YHVH's Universe is just too tedious).

I'd be fine removing that part until we have confirmation one way or the other.

So someone edit-warred and removed Asahi's Tier Induced Scrappy again. Bringing it here for discussion.

• Asahi is already a divisive character for her personality, but for almost all of the game, she's also one of the worst partners. Her healing is invaluable early on, but as Nanashi and his demons get access to better, more reliable healing she quickly becomes useless. It's not until her Awakening that makes her even close to useful again, and by that time most players have written her off entirely. It doesn't help that her Awakening only happens immediately before the very last dungeon and only on one route.

Here is the edit-reason: Asahi is absolutely not a tier induced Scrappy. Her healing will always allow Nanashi and his demons to take more actions per turn making her invaluable, especially on higher difficulties. Her midgame access to Mediarama carries hard, until it upgrades at the end of the game, effectively making your team invincible.

So, I never hear people talking about Asahi being anything but useless. As the writeup says, most players I talk to write her off well before her Awakening. Which, even if she winds up being useful then, is still an example because the audience treats her as such. Additionally, "invaluable" and "invincible" are suspiciously strong words. Even if Mediarama is that useful (it isn't, in my experience), she's her healing can't, say, bring a character back from the dead or even heal a grievously wounded character. It can be useful if the enemies are evenly, lightly damaging the entire team, but if that's the case then the player probably doesn't need the help anyway. Not to mention the unreliability issue is unaddressed.

That is quite suspicious. Luca Earlgrey didn't add her back, but placed this in which sounds good for now since there isn't a consensus:

I fail to even see what the issue here is. There is general consensus that Asahi is boring and useless, and that's what YMMV is all about, anyway. Whether one specific person disagrees or not doesn't change that.

Look, I actually like Asahi a fair lot (even though she is pretty subpar in combat) but that doesn't change general consensus. That doesn't change how on every forum, people react to her mostly negative or indifferent. Add it back, I won't stop you.

And yes, I do think we should add her back to Tier Induced Scrappy, too. She is still the second-least useful partner (after Gaston), tied with Nozomi. Even when awakened, her healing is not enough, and shelving her in favour of Isabeau / Hallelujah / Toki / Navarre seems to be the norm. Nothing wrong with pointing that out.
