The game is very clear on its moral of "corrupt authority must be challenged - take action if you find yourself being abused or taken advantage of." However, aside from the real-life issue that there are MANY reasons that someone who is being abused cannot or will not immediately seek recourse...in the world of the game itself, the people that any law abiding person would turn to in order to stop the abuse (school authorities, police, government) are in the pocket of The Conspiracy, and going to them for help would probably get you a mental-shutdown incident of your own. Is this prominent enough to warrant a Broken Aesop entry?
Hide / Show RepliesI mean, within the logic of the story it's still sound; they can't challenge the conspiracy through "official channels" like the police or authorities so they use alternative methods. As long as you don't take the story literally (and I mean, it's an Urban Fantasy about talking cats and alternate dimensions, who would?), that's basically analogous to circumventing a corrupt or inefficient system via methods like protesting and whistleblowing. Solid as far as I can tell. Unless you want to elaborate your point?
Edited by Dirtyblue929I'm not talking so much about the Thieves as about the "normal" people in the story. Ann explicitly calls Shiho an "idiot" for letting Kamoshida away with what he'd done...as opposed to doing what? Physically retaliating? Ryuji tried that — it didn't go well for him. Telling the headmaster? He knows — he's the one responsible for hiring him and keeping him in a job. Tell her parents? They're also implied to know that Kamoshida isn't fit to be a teacher, and Shiho can't move school until they say so. Leaving the team? Again, look what happened to Ryuji, and then there's the fact that she's still not safe from him as long as he's in the school. The best she could do is stand her ground and tell him "no," hoping that calling his bluff works, but given that the man is strongly implied to be a rapist, I'm not sure if that would work either.
Don't get me wrong — I love Persona 5 and its "fight the corrupt system" angle (Persona 4 and it's "Eh, you're probably better off where you are" message has its place, but with some Links — such as Temperance — it was frustrating). It's just that in-universe, only the Thieves really have the means to do so. I also get that it's suggesting that society is complicit in these abuses by rewarding dangerous and selfish people with power and money...but for the people stuck living in such a system who don't have the ability to summon Personas, their options are extremely limited. At best, they can choose to walk away and accept the consequences (such as the woman who had the credit stolen for her work, and opted to start her own business instead).
I'm really not sure I get what you're saying here. The point is that everyone has the means to do this, it's just that they don't do anything because they either don't think they can or lack the ability. Or because they want to take advantage of it.
Yes, the Conspiracy has a lot of control, but in the end, people like Sae and Sojiro were just as important in bringing them down as the Phantom Thieves themselves. They might have lacked the power to enter the Metaverse and summon Personas, but if Sae hadn't decided to help Joker even after hearing the full story, then he'd have been dead.
No, it doesn't count as a Broken Aesop. Because the game makes it clear that lacking the resources is no excuse not to do the right thing if you can do so. Sae and the other Confidants lacked the power of Personas, but still helped out in their own way.
Unrelated to my post below; in rank 2 or 3 of Ann's Confidant link she mentions that she was recently in Finland for a photoshoot — anyone think this could be an Ascended Meme or Ascended Fanon for the early speculation about her being Finnish because of her surname?
Edited by Dirtyblue929So the game doesn't have a game over poem like the last few entries (3, 4, Q), so the page quote needs to be something else; it can't just be the reveal teaser quote forever. I've gone ahead and put part of the prologue monologue from Lavenza for now, but if anyone has a better suggestion go ahead.
Under Mythology Gag: "Like all of the other heroes in the Persona series, the main character sports gray eyes." The only Persona protagonist to have gray eyes before P5 is the protagonist from Persona 4. I'm not sure if this should be removed or simply edited to be more accurate. As someone who comes to TV Tropes extremely rarely and not wanting to step on anyone's toes, I'll leave that decision up to someone else. I just thought it should be pointed out.
Hide / Show RepliesYank. It's just not an example because it's not true.

- Reality Is Unrealistic: Some people in the internet have said that Ryuji and Anzu shouldn't have blonde hair since they are biologically Japanese. Others have rebutted those claims by reminding them that in Asian culture, dyeing your natural hair is a sign of being a rebel against authority.
- There's also the possibility that Anzu isn't even Japanese to begin with, or only part Japanese. It depends on whether her surname, Takamaki, is really meant to be the Finnish surname or if that's just a coincidence and whether her first name is really Anzu or Anne/An.
Because it seems more like a jab at detractors, and is pretty much speculation. Plus, while they've had characters who explicitly dyed their hair blonde (Kanji), the series has had its share of improbable or impossible hair colors.

Mayhap, but at the moment it's just speculation.

Hide / Show RepliesFrom the video, it looks like two girls with long hair, one in a braid, one in a bun.

Hide / Show RepliesIt appears to be from an unsourced section of the megaten wiki, a little googling suggests persona 5 will have a similar art style to past persona games,
Granted there is very little information available and neither of these are officially sourced but its better then an unsourced line from another wiki,

Now that Persona 5 Royal has come out in English, I feel like a lot of the entries on this page concerning Yoshizawa... are looking very incorrect in many ways.
Spoilers for people who aren't away of it yet, but... well I'm diving in.
Namely, it seems to a common occurrence that people seem to think that Sumire really was being touted as Kasumi in contests when the game makes it clear that she's only got a cognitive overlay that makes Sumire think people are referring to her as Kasumi and that she's referring to herself as Kasumi while they're actually hearing her say Sumire. The only reason Joker and Morgana know her as Kasumi is because they saw the name on her journal and figured that was her name. And the only person who ever refers to her by her given name is her father and we don't meet him till the third semester, so Joker never finds out that her name isn't Kasumi.
I just figure that I'd point this all out because... well, it's gonna be extremely hard to fix all those entries and I don't think anyone has the time for that, so I just figured I'd mention it here for future reference in making more entries concerning that.
