I was looking over this page and thinking it could use some cleanup. A good bit of examples seem to be fans projecting their displeasure with what seem to poor writing at worst or choices that creator made as trolling them intentionally. The Hideo Kojima example seems indicative of what I'm talking about. Thing is, I'm not familiar with a lot of these examples, so I was hoping to start a discussion on what should be cut.
Imagine Rakan applying Calling Your Attacks to doing paperwork.~Anarchy Rakan for the hell of it COMMISSION THIS BRIDGE!~EHK Hide / Show RepliesRemoved this and pasted it here. Did he even know that fans hated it? If he did, put it back up and state that he knew.
- Yoshiyuki Tomino declared the much-hated Zakrello mobile armor to be the most powerful machine in Mobile Suit Gundam's One-Year-War.
I decided to remove the picture from the main page. I checked The Other Wiki, and this image was outdated. To show you what I mean, here is what was formerly the page image:
Since the image was posted, someone removed that bit about him trolling.
- raises hand* I actually really really like Endless Eight, and the people who hate on it always come off as immature to me - doing things like saying, "Well, we didn't like it, so it must just be trolling."
I'm not sure where to place this, but the image seems like it needs knowledge of the show to understand.
While I know the show in question, I've not watched it.
What exactly is being shown in the image? Because I feel like I need to understand what's on the monitor before I'd get the point.
"Did you expect somebody else?"What do you call a character who is intended to piss off the fandom (or at least one specific subgroup of the fandom)? Because I have a character created just to troll people.
Hide / Show RepliesHate Sink is the closest thing I can find.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnyone else think that this trope is bad for customer relations? Why troll the people who give you your money?! Unless, of course, they're so idiotic that they complain about every little thing, no matter how small. Otherwise, I see absolutely no excuse for it.
Oh, and this isn't about removing it. I'm just wondering if it's mostly bad and why they do this. (If this is an irrational thing to say here, please ignore this)
Edited by SamMax Hide / Show RepliesSome of the examples are Audience Reactions, not actual examples (Tite Kubo springs to mind). That being said, most fanbases are an Unpleasable Fanbase, and some creators know as much, so they just do whatever they want to do and have fun with it. In some cases, it makes them more popular due to infamy (how many people would know Tite Kubo's name if it weren't for all the fans hating on him)?
And of course, some creators are just assholes.
This isn't nessecarily bad. It depends on how malicious the Trolling Creator is. For example, the When They Cry fandom thorougly enjoys the trolling from Ryukishi. Then again, said trolling is much more playful in nature.
I was going to say the same thing the OP did, but someone seems to have beaten me to it years ago, glad I'm not the only who feels this way. XD
So, about the Ryukishi guy... it may sound strange, but since Gadflys are considered the somewhat more benevolent version of a Troll, maybe he could be called a Gadfly Creator, or one of the other related tropes?
"Hell exists not to punish sinners, but to ensure that nobody sins in the first place." - Eikishiki Yamaxanadu (Touhou)How is Seth Mc Farlane not on here, with his intentional Conway-rolling and such?
This page could use a cleanup. It's not trolling simply because someone does something even remotely creative or does something for himself for once or couldn't manage to please everyone. I've already taken out some of the stuff I'm familiar with (over half of the Tite Kubo section and the entire Smash Bros section).
