I'd call the primary distinction as internal anthropomorphization: a slime girl (or boy, if anyone can find good examples) is predisposed to be humanoid and think of humanoids as a similar form of life, despite not having anything about their physical makeup to justify this. They occupy a distinctlt different position on the Uncanny Valley. A Blob Monster can be cute, but is going to be either utterly alien or pet-like, able to get along with humans but in a socially simplified way. A Slime Girl is just humanlike enough to be either weirdly cute or very creepy whenever something comes up which breaks that illusion (like digestive processes).
Should we keep this topic? Is it needed if we have Blob Monsters?
