The Britannic, one of the Titanic-sized Oceanliners, was painted white, with a green ribbon around the hull, 3 huge night-lit Red crosses on each side, and used as a floating hospital for quite a while during World War I. It was never shot or torpedoed...

...Until it hit mines layed by submarines and sunk in shallow waters. Ironically, becoming an hospital ship after the Titanic had sunk, it had reinforced bulkheads, a double hull, and the ability to float with more ruptured compartments than the Titanic... but the port holes that were left opened, to air the patient wards before rescuing more soldiers, ensured her demise. Most of the crew survived, however.

Even the captains of subs that avoided firing at her knew that mines can't tell friend or foe apart. Mine laying was added to the Geneva Convention soon after.

I'm not really the guy to do it (I mostly just lurk) but maybe Bill Cosby shouldn't be the page quote anymore given...recent events?

I don't think that the sections on Spy and Sniper in Team Fortress 2 under Video Games fit this trope at all, because they do not provide any kind of healing or recovery. Should they be edited out?

Real Life

  • Changed "Red Cross" to "U.S. forces' medical evacuation" because I'm pretty sure the Red Cross never flew helicopters in Vietnam war zones.
