Was Prince of Persia the Trope Namer or the Trope Codifier here? It was a particularly literal example, as you actually had to use the "sheathe sword" button to get past the Mirror Prince, not just refrain from attacking, which a lot of players didn't even know was possible.

Always expect the worst and you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Any type of confrontation where the hero's only way to win it is ... to stop trying to defeat their opponent; eventually the enemy will tire himself out (become bored, etc.) and the hero will achieve a victory for their pacifism. " On parle de toi Chara.Ah non.

  • "Justice League Unlimited: Wonder Woman, Hawk, and Dove face an unstoppable magical robot that feeds on aggression. Dove beats it by... not fighting, or rather by getting analogues of North and South Korea to stop fighting.
    • And then everyone forgets that this works the next time the machine starts up.
    • They remember and use it. But unfortunately, there has been a very Obvious Rule Patch."

The first episode is "Hawk and Dove". The second is "The Balance", which shows Tala trying to patch the weakness and Felix Faust succeeding. (After pulling a dirty trick on Tala.)
