Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined, uploaded on the YouTube channel FXitinPost in May 2019, is both a Fan Film and a Fan Edit.

This 6 minutes-long short is essentially a much more dynamic reimagining of the famous 38th scene (hence "SC 38") of Star Wars: A New Hope — the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader on board the first Death Star — with modern filming techniques, more elaborate fight choreographies, more use of the Force and plenty of throwbacks to the films that canonically precede A New Hope.

This fan film provides examples of:

  • Blade Lock: Vader and Obi-Wan end up twice in a lightsaber lock with their heads very close to the energy blades.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Vader isn't above punching Obi-Wan, which he does a few times during the duel.
  • Fake Shemp: The short is made of both original shots from 1976 and shots filmed by fans. The new Obi-Wan actor's face is blurred or hidden by objects depending on the shots so he can blend in better with the shots of Alec Guinness. There also seems to be some pretty clever digital superimposition of Guinness' face on the actor at times.
  • Hitler Cam: There's one such shot of Vader right after Obi-Wan activates his lightsaber.
  • Leitmotif:
  • Meaningful Echo: Right before Vader delivers the killing blow to Obi-Wan, the voices of Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor from the last time Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan saw each other (in Revenge of the Sith) can be heard.
  • Mind over Matter:
    • Much like he did against Luke in The Empire Strikes Back, Vader uses the Force to hurl objects at Obi-Wan during the fight.
    • Vader also Force-pushes Obi-Wan against a wall, and Obi-Wan Force-pushes him as a last move before turning at Luke and making one with the Force.
  • Incendiary Exponent: Vader gets briefly set on fire after walking through an explosion made by Obi-Wan striking an explosive barrel with his lightsaber
  • Mythology Gag: The shot of Vader's entrance igniting his lightsaber when confronting Obi-Wan recalls his scene in the climax of Rogue One, with similar smoke effects on the ground.
  • Overcrank: Vader walks in slow motion when pronouncing "When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the master!".
  • Re-Cut: The clunky fight choreography shots of the original scene have been mostly removed. The scene where Han Solo chases stormtroopers while shouting and shoots one dead before fleeing has also been removed.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: Vader throws his lightsaber at Obi-Wan after hurling him against a wall. It gets planted in the wall right next to the Jedi Master's head much like a normal throwing sword would be. Vader then uses the Force to move it so that it takes off Obi-Wan's head, but he ducks out of the way.
  • Weapon Twirling: Vader twirls his lightsaber at one point during the fight.
