Am I the only one tempted to list the trolls from Homestuck (according to a good chunk of fanfic, anyway) as an example, at least to those who forget that they have a vastly different reproductive system from humans (One word: buckets)? Maybe it's just a pet peeve, but there seem to be a number of Interspecies Romance Wish-Fulfillment character/reader fiction that at least implies this trope, forgetting the whole "Okay, how are we doing this again?" part.
Just wondering, WHERE IN THE HELL IS MYSTIQUE FROM X-MEN?!
Hide / Show RepliesNo idea. Do go ahead and add her yourself, then.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.- Aelita from the book of the same name is another old (and blue) example.
This orphaned is missing the rest of its entry, and its source. Anyone recognize it?
Edited by ArcadesSabboth Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.Since I can't seem to comment on the other thread, I'll do it here. - In Mass Effect 2, they deal with why the Asari look human, in one of the conversations on Ilium, after several characters of different species argue over what species they more closely resemble, they come to a horrifying realization that the Asari control their minds to make them appear more attractive. So the reason they look human is because we (the observers) are humans, to a krogan they're krogan, to a salarian… well you get the idea. As to why almost everything else is humanoid, well that's a different trope.
Hide / Show RepliesIt's actually just a drunken pass over comment. There are plenty examples of unconscious/dead Asari looking like they still do and it's something other people would notice. It's just that every species places particular emphasis on certain aspects (ie in this case, it was the head tentacles looking like fringes and hip size looking like solarians etc)
I have no idea why people give that line (from drunken men just having fun) any credit. Aside from the points mentioned above, there's the ridiculously simple fact that PEOPLE WOULD ALREADY KNOW. Seriously, it doesn't take a genius to test if pheromones (unlikely to work, as Mordin himself says) or even some kind of mental manipulation (also easily detectable) were at play whenever someone was around or interacting with an asari.
Peep is essentially an overlapping of this and little green men, because she's no bigger than Jerry, who's a mouse.
