Steven Universe and Star vs the Forces should be the Western Animation because they have similar animation style, they are both magical girl genres, their creators left from their popular shows to create their own and they are both women.
Would Space☆Dandy and Wander over Yonder count? Both shows have a man with an id-centric personality who travels the universe aimlessly as the protagonist and gets chased around by a conqueror, whom the protagonist foils without even trying. The conqueror has a second-in-command with a high-pitched voice who gets annoyed at the conqueror's failures but wants to see him succeed. The episodes are often about the people the protagonists meet, upon which the protagonist goes to great lengths to try and help, usually at the expense of his friends. The protagonist has a tiny crew, the other(s) serving as a foil with her/their more groundedness and logical thinking patterns. Both series are incredibly light on continuity. Both series have an episode about space fleas trying to find a home.
Despite the things they have in common, however, the people who make the shows, as well as the people who watch them, are largely unaware of the other, so they theoretically can't really be "dueling" if they exist almost entirely separately from each other.
Edited by 173.58.248.100 Hide / Show RepliesNo. If you want, you can put it on Surprisingly-Similar Stories, but they're really not dueling or anything. And most of the things they have in common that you mentioned are pretty common. Not quite universal, but not really worth noting.

Also, in the 9 years Farscape has been off the air, I've never heard people debate Farscape/Lexx. I **have** heard people debate Farscape/Firefly though (personally love both, leaning slightly towards Farscape mostly based on Scorpius)
Should Naruto and American Dragon Jake Long be added as rivals? Even Tom noted that Jake was a rival show to Naruto, even name dropping "Jake Long" and at one point showing the American Dragon Logo, but each was produced on the opposite sides of the pacific, and the winner is kind of obvious.
I have an issue with calling Digimon a clone of Pokemon, as they are different shows with different origins and styles, despite being shounen Mon series.
Monster Rancher might be a clone, but I don't know much about it.
Do cross-media examples count? Because according to the info booklet for BCI Eclipse's release of Super Robot Red Baron, the aforementioned show used to compete with Mazinger Z at the time (and managed to trounce it on the ratings front, until the global Energy Crisis forced it to be cancelled).
Why are Yu Yu Hakusho and Flame of Recca on there? I mean, it's the first one... directly beneath a bullet point saying "these shows only count if they air at the same time," which according to the dates given on the page, these did not?
Also, they were done by the same studio, seems weird that the studio would be dueling with itself.
Going to edit the page for the time being, since no one will read the discussion page if I don't...

I'm more familiar with Power Rangers myself, but apparently those two franchises are toku behemoths in Japan's long history of television (with Kamen Rider Decade and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger attempting to bridge the divide with a crossover, IIRC).
Why haven't Family Guy and South Park been listed here? They're two of the biggest competitions i've known of.
Were Captain Planet And The Planeteers and Widget The World Watcher dueling shows?
Deleted the linking to Thief, since it leads to the page of the game series, not the TV series mentioned in this list.
ABC Comedy Wednesdays include The Middle and Cougar Town in addition to Modern family. Although they don't include various types of families, they are all half hour sitcoms with rivalries within themselves in addition to the Parenthood]] / Modern Family rivalry. Then again, Modern Family seems to be adored by the network by having more advertising then the others.
Edited by OldManTellahCan dueling mangas be added to this page, notably if only one of the mangas in question has been turned into an anime?
More digimon is coming. Won't this thing ever die?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digimon#Digimon_Xros_Wars_.28Season_six.29
