Uh yeah, that wall of links didn't read well at all.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNow that the first two chapters of Rebuild are up on ff.net and I've read them, I'm wondering if that story should get its own page either now or once more chapters are posted. Already there are enough differences that I forsee things getting confusing very fast if tropes from the rebuild are posted here.
Hide / Show RepliesI'm with you. Antelechy got a rebuild page too, so it makes sense to do the same for ND 2.0
I'm willing to make it, if all there is no dissent on the need. There seems to be less traffic hereabouts than in the past, so I'll get on it when I finish my study procrastination presumably without any replies
Is it really advisable?I'll start it then. Also need to put the original page on at least one index. I have time.
Is it really advisable?I've moved the tropes that apply to the rewrite to its appropriate page. Thought I should let you know.
Hey, fic author here. I have a question. What's with the negative reviews that start with them saying I have a legion of crazed fans who will hunt them down? Have they honestly read the thread on Spacebattles?
I mean, seriously. My cowriters criticize me a lot more harshly than any negative reviews do, and the negative reviews are more constructive criticism than anything. I'm not complaining...much...but do I really come across as having a cult following or a group of trained assassins at my command?
Hide / Show Replies...yeah Yeah it does. Especially in some of the earlier threads.
It's always darkest just before the dawn.Nubile? You started an Internet-geek cult, man. You have only yourself to blame.
What's precedent ever done for us?I haven't checked any of the ND threads in a long time, so the last edit to the page is puzzling to me...what happened?
I based that edit mostly on a recent addition to the YMMV page. Apparently, following the Reset Button, the reader response was so overwhelmingly negative that the author made a post on the official forums about how the series needs to "die in a fucking fire", and he hasn't made a single post anywhere since.
To clarify, it's less reader response as it is reviews months after the fact that ignore chapters 103-110 like they scream at the top of their lungs I ignore season 4. I actually gave up on the story around the time the ND entry appeared on the Dethroning Moments page, truth be told. I just didn't bother saying anything.
Gah...I thought the reset made a lot of sense and it actually rekindled my interest in the fic. Don't let the idiots get you down, Gregg.
Edited by WillbyrConstantly referring to something that is explicitly not a reset button as a reset button is one of the things. It's possible that the story has become too tropes heavy, yes. But at the same time, any attempt I've made to clarify it has been ignored because, well, no damn clue. I see it usually referred to as the Kubo effect. IE "Remember that popular writer? Well, now he sucks, so let's talk about how much he sucks." Hence, dead story.
And here I thought you were waiting for Rebuild of Eva 3.0 to see what new ideas you could incorporate into the story. Oh well, I still love your fic and have been hoping for it to continue but, well, I can see why you would want to wash your hands clean of it considering everything that has happened and can't really blame you if you do.
Anyways Gregg, I just wanted to let you know you still have at least 1 fan who loves your story and wants to see more.
Edited by fdsfgs71I didn't discover the story until well after the last update to it and for what it's worth, I started enjoying it more after chapter 102.
Edited by EamilAaaand I'm too late to change history by convincing Landsman to tell the internet to shove it where the sun don't shine and keep writing. Seriously, I have some problems with the series too, but I'd hate to see it perma-nuked because of bitchy fantards refusing to accept the author's creative decision.
I will point out that the guy who edited the YMMV entry to include my 'Creator Breakdown' was the one who added the ND entry to the Dethroning Moment of Suck page, if I am not mistaken. Most of the 'fans' who are pleading with me the loudest to continue the story (see the damn spacebattles threads) are the ones who were calling me a retard the loudest. By and large, I believe that anyone who is asking me to continue this damn story is looking for something to point and laugh at.
You know, a lot of the fan-stories have been canonized by the author, making them into an Expanded Universe.
Is there some way that we can better relect that on these Tropes pages?
The only method I can thing of is to either put a [[ WMG:Expanded Universe Tropes ]] section at the end, with separate [[ folder ]]'s for each story (and for each page, such as for Awesome, Funny, Heartwarming and Shout Outs), or making a Fanfic Recs page.
Hide / Show RepliesDo all the Angels have a musical theme, or is it just Leliel and Zeruel?
Anyone else wince when "Cherubim" or "Nephilim" are used as singular nouns? "-Im" is the plural affix (masculine plural for those who care); the singular form is "Cherub" and "Nephil". It's like saying "a cars".
Hide / Show RepliesSpeaking for myself, this is one case that doesn't make my inner Grammar Nazi twitch, but I'll ask around.
Nephilim is used as the term applying to Rei in most of the sources I see, so I go with that. It's sort of the same as the Ireul/Iruel thing. Yes, it's incorrect, but it's how it's used in the source material. Cherubim I use because Cherubim is the name of the order of Angels, hence term "First Cherubim", etc.
Then again, we've already noticed that the NGE team really suck at foreign-language plurals. 'Children', anyone?
What's precedent ever done for us?The Alternative Character Interpretation entry needs either a lot of reworking, or most of the entries need to be stricken, as they don't fit the trope meaning. Gregg putting a new spin on certain characters does not count; it's the ambiguity of their actions/motives leading to multiple possible explanations.
Hide / Show RepliesJust chop the examples that don't fit, I says. Remember to provide the reason in your edit, though.
What's precedent ever done for us?Been reading one of the spin-off fanfics, NGE: Nobody Dies: Six A.I.s, One Continent. Got to first part of chapter 2...I have ask one thing.
Is one of the Keiworu dreaming about CTHULHU?! There's enough Eldritch Abominations flying around without granddaddy showing up. Though its fitting considering the continent...
Hide / Show RepliesAnd now we have the truth out. It's one of the Baraqielim dreaming about... something.
How much of the story has been completed and how many "seasons" are left? Just wondering.
I honestly don't know. I found someone had made it on TV tropes some day, and it just went from there.
Made a page for another Landsman fic, Walking in the Shadow of Dreams.
Spelin erroars hont me.Page author here. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who's made this page (or these pages, now that we've got quotes and Crowning Moments and a freaking character sheet) such a huge success. You rock, tropers. Now have some e-cookies.◊
Edited by Comartemis Hide / Show RepliesHas anyone noticed that the author has misspelled Ireul's name since his introduction?
Hide / Show RepliesIt's always been Eva canon that the Angel's name is Iruel. We know that it's Ireul in the actual angelology...hasn't this already been addressed?
It occurs to me, what with Yui being alive and a substantial player in this fic (to say the least), at some point, Shinji needs to utter the line "Momma said knock you out".
My Blog thing
The Word of God links need to be redone, but breaking them all in that manner wasn't the way to do it...rewriting the entries would've been the better tactic. An edit reason would've been nice, too.
