Is there a relevant trope that addresses how the games make it unclear just how malevolent something is?
Well, there is Ambiguously Evil, which might be the best fit unless Spiritomb's own malevolence disqualifies the trope.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!Well given how a lot of the dex entries describes Spiritomb's misdeeds as "mischief," I'd say it's ambiguous how evil it is too. One might even say the ancient magic used to seal it was done because no trainer existed to curb its mischief, hence why its safe when trained.
In preparations to Legends: Arceus possibly bloating the page further, what could be a good point to split the page in?
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru! Hide / Show RepliesIt may not be an even split in terms of text amount, but would splitting it roughly down the middle not make sense? There are roughly 40 sections, so starting the new section with Chatot could work. Or we could just make a section for the gen 4 legendary pokemon, since the majority of new tropes from the game are likely to go to their entries.
Arceus would fit into the Top God trope, but is it a "God of Gods" or a "King of the Gods"?
This entry is being edit warred over. Please discuss an entry instead of edit warring over it:
- Discard and Draw: Mega Garchomp loses 10 Speed, making it easier to outrun, but gains boosts to everything else including a massive boost to Attack, taking it from Lightning Bruiser to Mighty Glacier.
That specific entry isn't the problem. The problem is troper Karxrida continuously adding an entry comparing Garchomp to Kyurem-Black. Check the full history; it was first added under Suspiciously Similar Substitute, I removed, it was re-added as Expy, another troper removed, and was recently added under Discard and Draw before I removed it again.
Don't really think it counts. Losing ten speed isn't discard a power. It's slightly reducing a power. And gaining even more of a power you already possess isn't really drawing a new power.
For a random comparison. Mega Aggron. I would say he counts as a Discard and Draw, he's discarding his Rock typing in exchange for an Ability that reduces damage from super effective hits.
Edited by 71.164.186.100 You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Assuming Garchomp counts for this entry it's unnecessary to compare Kyurem and Garchomp because it's not relevant at all to how Garchomp loses speed stats for more power when he transforms into his mega form. It comes off as the writer of the example going on a tangent. Casual wiki readers just aren't going to get it, and they won't care.
Plus Kyurem is a generation V pokemon. This page is about pokemon who were introduced in Generation IV.
I'd argue losing speed can be a drawback though depending on what you're up against, because being able to attack first can give you a huge advantage sometimes.
Edited by 71.120.130.209Honestly i would say that a comparison between mega garchomp and kyurem-black isn't too far off. If you look at both their base stats side by side the base stat spreads are almost identical, even having the exact same base stat totals and exact sets in both offenses. which can be seen uh here:
Kyurem-Black - Dragon/Ice | Teravolt | 125/170/100/120/90/95 | 700 BST | OU | Low Kick/Grass Knot: 120 BP
Mega Garchomp - Dragon/Ground | Sand Force | 108/170/115/120/95/92 | 700 BST | OU | Low Kick/Grass Knot: 80 BP
Aside from this, both Mega Garchomp and Kyurem-B are used in the same/similar roles when they're added onto teams: they're both used as wallbreakers that use their massive offenses to take out defensive Pokemon for their teammates. Of course they have their differences (Mega Garchomp resists Stealth Rock and needs a mega stone, while Kyurem-B can use other items and often gets used as a substitute attacker with Leftovers). I wouldn't say that Mega Garchomp is a complete ripoff of kyube, but its pretty hard to deny that theres at least some similarity there lol.
EDIT: altho it might not be exactly relevant to garchomp losing speed i could still see those similarities warranting mention somewhere else.
Also, if you add Mega Aggron to discard and draw, make sure to specifically mention the combination of Rock Head and STAB Head Smash, because a recoilless 150 BP STAB move is a pretty significant loss in exchange for its new abilities (increased defenses, weaknesses covered etc)
Edited by 24.185.163.149I'm not sure where, but I think Drake Clawfang mentioned a decision to downplay competitive metagame and similar stuff in these pages. Drake Clawfang, if you can provide a link, it would be most illuminating.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundSuspiciously Similar Substitute, Expy, and Discard and Draw were all misused by Karxrida in order to shoe-horn a comparison between Maga Garchomp and Kyurem Black. That discussion about removing fandom stuff from these pages is also a sound one.
I was going to argue about this, then I decided that a) it wasn't worth it and b) I was being stupid. I'm sorry.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Hey, mistakes happens. Repeating them is the bad thing.

I'm relieved no-one got banned over this.
Spiritomb's entry somewhat bothers me in this page as it repeatedly states that it is formed from 108 malevolent spirits which is trapped in the Odd Keystone. The thing is that the various Pokédex entries flip between saying that "Spiritomb is formed out of 108 spirits" and "Spiritomb was bound to the Odd Keystone for its misdeeds". However, almost none of them state that the spirits themselves are malevolent as a whole. Sword does state that some of the spirits are ill-natured what would explain Spiritomb's nature. Though Legends: Arceus does go against it by saying that "this Pokémon was born out of the assembly of five score and eight malevolent spirits." Which might not be that accurate considering that the person who tells you to reform Spiritomb is one of the said spirits. Unless the other adaptations make it more clear that Spiritomb's spirits are all malevolent, this feels like speculation.
