Why does this page keep insisting that Super Robot Wars Alpha is an EVA game? Am I missing something here?

I assume you mean the Soundtrack Dissonance subbullet? That's just natter talking about how this example relates to another work.

I think we should add Shinji Ikari Expies too. While he's an even more whining expy of Amuro Ray, he got a lot of expies. Like Renton Thurston from Eureka Seven, Haruyuki from Accel World, etc.

I'm kinda new here but why is the main page of NGE divided up into theme, setting, ect. instead of just having the tropes in alphabetical order. I haven't seen this set up on any other page and I think having the tropes go in alphabetical order may be easier.

Actually, the section with comparisons is a complete mess. We should really have some kind of rules for what qualifications a series must fulfill in order to be added.

Here's what I propose:
  • Connections in staff
  • Stated connections/influences
  • Similar themes

Xenogears is also animated by Production I.G, released a few years after Evangelion was, and shares Gnostic themes, as well as involving mecha. I'd say it would still qualify to be listed under comparisons.

Maybe somebody already mentioned this, but...

I think that End of Evangelion should have its own page. It's NOT the anime— it's a movie. It makes no sense for me to click on a link that says "End of Evangelion", and have myself redirected to the main page for Neon Genesis Evangelion. It makes even less sense when it says "aka: End of Evangelion" under the title.

Can we please stop messing with the part that talks about 'similar anime in general'? In particular, please stop removing Revolutionary Girl Utena. The page itself says it's the shojo equivalent of NGE.

The editor responsible actually changed Utena's page to remove the reference I mentioned. They did this ''multiple times.' What the hell?

How does Sin and Punishment relate to NGE at all?

Saki's hulked out form in the first game looks like Shinji's robot, Saki is capable of storing another person inside of himself, it centers around child soldiers in Tokyo, there are vague reference to God/holy women and the nebulox/G5 are technically prophets, which is kind of close to apostles, which is what Neon Genesis Evangelion enemies were called before they were mistranslated as angels...

In regards to the quotes: I see no reason to change from the Twin Peaks comparison; it's been on the page for as long as I can remember and works just as well as the Anno quote. Plus, in this case I think the Twin Peaks quote works a bit better because NGE is so noted for what it did to the mecha genre, which the quote addresses.

I think the main problem with the Twin Peaks comparison is just that - it's only a comparison. It defines Evangelion solely on the basis on something else instead of based on its own traits, elements or themes, and that something else is something that people have a coin-flipping chance of being familiar with in the first place. Basically, I think half the quotes on the quote page would be infinitely preferable to it (especially the second Sarte quote, which really hits on the main theme of the series). There are so many options much cleverer than "Ha ha, they're both Mind Screws! Isn't that funny?"

Furthermore, I don't actually think anyone can be casually expected to draw the conclusion that Evangelion had a massive impact on the mecha genre based on that quote, or what the nature of that impact might be. Not sure how you think this is addressed.

In a nutshell, the Twin Peaks quote is weak and oblique, and the idea that "it's been there forever" isn't justification enough for it.

I won't start editing it away if you decide to revert, but please consider carefully whether I'm not making some sense here...

I'm sticking with Willbyr, I think he is right with this.

We could have both of them. Two quotes is fine, especially for a famous, Trope Overdosed show like this.

This is a year and a half late, but Born In 1142 makes an excellent point. I don't see why there should be a Grandfather Clause in effect for such a small thing.

I'm thinking of adding an example of Expy, but I don't know if it is just coincidential, and/or just my mind playing tricks on me.. More specifically, Fuyutsuki bears to me a striking resemblance of Grand Moff Trakin from Star Wars, not just his appearance, as well as his apparent position as a subordinate of the "bad guy" (I know it is more complicated than that, let's just keep this analysis free of the typical Evangelion-esque Mind Screw) so, I just want someone confirming that this intended edit is or isn't out of place

He's nothing like Tarkin. Tarkin is the guy that makes Darth Vader look friendly, approachable, and moderate. Apart from being tall and thin they've got no character traits in common.

Why the hell is numerous anime being redirected specifically to anime/x or manga/y? Example: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Cardcaptor Sakura all redirect to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Cardcaptor Sakura. Now, in the case of Iron Man, Iron Man, and Iron Man, it's understandable, as there are numerous works / series bearing the same name across mediums. But the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and associated franchise is the ONLY work under that title! What real purpose could there be in this kind of pedantic Macekre? What The Hell, TvTropes?!

All work pages are being moved to appropriate namespaces.
05:24:04 PM Nov 11th 2011
Yep. The ultimate goal is that only tropes will be on the Main namespace.
