I agree; it's hard to understand things without examples being listed
Could we also do a "heroic tropes outside of white" folder? I have some ideas about that.
Hide / Show RepliesI was thinking in adding a "Heroic Black" list. From the top of my head, I can think these:
- Anti-Hero
- Dark Is Not Evil
- The Sacred Darkness
- Don't Fear the Reaper
- Friendly Neighborhood Vampire
- Screw Destiny
- Self-Made Man
- Good Is Not Nice (although it's possible for a Black character to be nice)
- Good Is Not Soft
- My Species Doth Protest Too Much (when the character belongs to an Always Chaotic Evil race, although this would probably make them Golgari instead of mono-Black)
- Creepy Good
- Bad Powers, Good People
Oh, there's also:
- Living Is More than Surviving
- Knight in Sour Armor
- Pragmatic Hero
- Think Nothing of It
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- The Anti-Nihilist
- Punch-Clock Hero
- Anti Anti Christ
- The Atoner
- To Be a Master
- Nice Mice
- The Unchosen One
- Perky Goth
- It Amused Me - When the "it" is a good thing
Blue: Gentleman Thief (although this is mostly an anti-hero)
Green: Because Destiny Says So
I believe Be Yourself is a sentiment shared by Black, Red and Green, although Black may want to hide their true self if it better suits it.
Edited by HenryHFAI think Black can be The Determinator too, especially because Red might simply get tired and move to another thing. (Maybe all colors can be this, but I think Black and Red are the two that best embody it.)
The Determinator is present in White too. It's an unifying aspect of Orzhov.
I think Thirsty Desert shoudln't be listed in the evil tropes of Red. Deserts in Magic The Gathering usually produce Colorless or generic mana, the exception being the ones of Amonkhet, that can produce Mana of any color.
Edit.: Nevermind, just saw some Red cards dealing with deserts, altighough there are White cards too.
Edited by HenryHFAI don't think it's accurate to call White/Black a Straw Hypocrite. To pretend you follow a certain way of life as a mere masquerade is quite mono-Black (and mono-Blue, too). White/Black could be a straight hypocrite, as in a person who actually believes what they say, but whose actions contradict their words. (Mono-White can be this with Double Standards, I guess)
I think Thanos should be White/Green, since White can commit genocide too if it thinks it's justified
Hide / Show RepliesHe also talks a lot about "balance", which is a very White thing
Edited by HenryHFAPerhaps Thanos is not White because of that color's emphasis on morality, and Thanos's snap destroyed entirely at random, without anything regarding morality, just like nature does not care whether you were the noblest person or the most depraved, if you suffered some kind of disaster (such as cancer or having your house destroyed by a tornado), you just suffered it. This would further reflect the notion of the universe and nature being utterly indifferent, which would fit in Green and Black. Then again, I might be missing nuances.
Edited by MTGAdeptYou have a point, but remember that the reason the killings are random is because then they would be fair, as no one would be discriminated out of race, sex, social class, etc.
I added Wataru Kurenai in Mardu, but now I think he's more like Jund. What do you guys think?
Would it make sense to also put in a section covering colorless mana? With both artifacts and the Eldrazi tapping into it, it seems prudent to give colorless some explanation, at least for completenesses' sake. Maybe focusing on how it often transcends the natural order of the Multiverse (either through purposeful engineering or utter wrongness).
Hide / Show RepliesHm. Possibly. I'm just thinking of what could be other examples.
What rises must fall, what falls may rise again. The Dominion doesn't seem Esper to me.
"The rest of the time they exist in a kind of Hive Mind called the Great Link, which effectively makes them a single entity. They also care deeply about eachother"
More Green than white.
"Finally, they also constantly express the belief that they fundamentally better than "Solids.""
Also more Green than white.
Hide / Show RepliesI think the Founders may be a bit Green, but the Dominion itself lacks Green aspirations. They don't want harmony, they want dominance and forced conformity for the safety of a privileged few, which is White/Black.
What rises must fall, what falls may rise again.I think it would be nice to have a page where people can talk about their color combinations (everyone is WUBRG but each individual is more attuned with some colors than with others) and how they embody them
Should we put a "no real life examples" header on this page? Someone tried to add Adolph Hitler under "fanon color combination" examples, and that seems like it would set a horrible precedent.
I've deleted the example, but I want to check with people here before it devolves into an edit war.
Splitting the red/white/blue color combination into arguments about the United States seems to be mostly unrelated to the actual topic at hand and seems rife for baiting people into political arguments that don't really have much of a place here.
Would it be better to just delete the first two folders and have the "international perspective" folder be the only part of the entry?
Could we put each of the categories in a folder (possibly with subfolders)? it seems like it'd make this page a lot easier to navigate
Hide / Show RepliesSeems like a good idea ath the cost of processing power and editability.
Oi. This is a big page. Yes, folderize it pronto.

So, this page has had some major restructuring since the last time I visited it and... am I the only one who thinks the new version looks bad, seems to have lost a lot of information, and honestly just looks less professional than the previous version? Could be just me, but it seems like a major downgrade.
