Either Ass Pull (YMMV) or Beyond the Impossible?

Seconding Beyond the Impossible, and noting that it would by definition also be one of the Ex Machina Tropes in most cases. See also Author's Saving Throw.
Loophole Abuse also plays into this, especially in No Man of Woman Born-type situations. Cutting the Knot and Forbidden Chekhov's Gun are related.

What this trope is, is when the rules of the world have been set, a character is allowed to break these rules by coming up with that one, single, very specific exception to the rule, whether it be an item, another character, or a piece of magic or device in the world.
It's a way that lazy writers get themselves out of corners they have written themselves into.
EDIT: to clarify this further, this is not a deus ex machina, or applied phlebotinium. This is an exception that breaks the rules.
