Not sure if it's bowdlerizing, but it's definitely an agenda of some kind (not plugged into that world, so wouldn't be able to talk on it).

It feels agenda-y to me as well, but it's only been two of their edits and most have been on a specific series, so I'm not sure if it is? But it's uncomfortable enough for me not to want to confront them myself, honestly.

Eh, queer's a weird one; from what I understand it's mostly been reclaimed by the LGBT community, but some people still don't like the term, to put it lightly. We have had many ATT reports in the past of people deleting the word "queer" (ones I could find from a quick search: here, here, here, and here) because they had an agenda about it.

The word is allowed on this website and we use it for multiple tropes/indexes, like Queer as Tropes, Queer Character, Queer Actor, Queer Media, Magical Queer, etc., so the edits should be reverted.

In a vacuum, the edit to Anarchism would be considered legitimate, as "homophobic" is more accurate. However, considering it in line with the other edits, it's obviously an attempt to avoid the word "queer".

Not really keen on having my identity treated as a slur tbh. I respect that some people might be uncomfortable with the word applied to themselves and that's fine but the bowdlerizing rubs me the wrong way.

Yeahhhh, it's difficult when the word is considered both an identity and a slur. That's why the wiki uses it where applicable but doesn't slap it everywhere. I'd say that what this person is doing does count as bowlderizing.

I’ve seen queer as both an identifier and a slur around in other fandom circles. Having read up on the history surrounding that word, the word itself having been originally used to mean “odd, strange” (looking at the etymology, the german word it came from, quer, meaning “oblique, perverse”), and accounts by people in the LGBT community who view this word as a slur for these reasons led me to change it.

If this came off insensitive to others who identify as such, it was never intented and I sincerely apologize. I’ll refrain from such edits in the future.

The thing is, ever word used to refer to people in the queer community is a slur. "Queer" is a widely reclaimed one which a lot of people prefer to use.

Understood, won’t happen again.
