Yeah, more people gives the group more chances collectively, but every time someone drops it brings the whole group closer to failing.

Best advice I can give is to keep to his back and strike when he's breathing fire, since that's his biggest window. He has a tail lash but it's not as dangerous as being in front of him, and you can sever his tail to hinder it, anyway. If you can't handle it I can help out.

Keep the flanks as much as possible, if you have to go under him try to keep near the base of the tail, where possible use the environment.

Beat Nergles. I gave up trying to take him on in Low Rank armor since I'd die to a stiff breeze. So I farmed Odagaron until I got his armorset (focusing on getting critical eye points). I had the Kadachi Flying Strikebow or whatever it was called.

Anyway, took him down pretty solidly. Fainted twice- once due to unluckily getting stomped on, the other riiiiight near the end of his quest when he did his one-shot dive and I didn't panic dive since I rolled the wrong way.

Then I immediately took on Vaal Hazak who was really easy. The only time I ever even got close to fainting was when I was deliberately ignoring my health.

Now I'm just going out and getting the other stuff for my palico. I just got the plunderblade (which probably would've made farming oda a bit easier...) so that'll help in the long run.

i beat anjanath after doing some armor sphere farming, drinking a bunch of drugs, and murdering a bunch of salamander boyes

then i joined up with some friends to do a bunch more hunting and captured some more big boyes and now my palico is a dinosaur

toasted the teostra! a much harder fight than vaal hazak, as expected. but i also have toaster experience from previous games so i mostly knew what i was getting into.

the cinematic was so badass. the fight was also really really good, outside of a couple situations where i was trapped for what felt like BS reasons.

I'm going to be farming him at some point in the future I'm sure.

So. Do we have a Troper hunting squad set up yet?

Not that I know of. Tropers are both on Ps 4 and X box one. Mark was talking about maybe forming one for the X box. I was for it.

[up][up]I'd debated setting one up (on PS 4) but it's going to be a while beore I'll let myself do team hunts (one of my goals is soloing everything before going multiplayer; still have 4 optional quest to unlock and complete and 5 arena quests to clear) so I figured I shouldn't be the one starting it.

If someone does make one I'd be interested in joining; it'll just be a while before I'm active.

Speaking of squads, can you not have two characters in the same squad? I tried to get my second character into my IRL friends squad, but couldn't do it.

If there is a PS 4 troper squad, I'll join, but I tend to play solo or with IRL friends. I haven't played with any tropers yet, and I'm unaware of any organised play that goes on.

Yeah last time I was playing with Tuef I had toyed with an idea of forming an Xbox tropers squad. If I decide on it I'll post it here.

I'll make a squad at some point- the biggest issue is getting people to join since they need to be invited to the server itself in order to be added to the squad.

So yesterday I was wondering why my game wasn’t updating. Today I realized I got the date wrong. It wasn’t yesterday, it’s tomorrow.

At least this game will let you know when Deviljho is in the area, if you have enough research points on it. Makes it less of a surprise than it was in past games, where you wouldn’t know it was around until you saw it.

And actually, Bazelgeuse was kinda helpful when I was trying to hunt a Radobaan the other day, as long as I got out of the way when it showed up. Did a lot of my work for me. Or maybe that was the Odogaron that was in the same area? I don’t remember. Point is, I don’t think Deviljho will be as annoying in this game as it is in others...especially because it can’t fly. :P

Also, Bazel and Pickle trade when they Turf War. After one or two they'd both be worn down so much neither will be much of a threat.

[up][up]Whenever I see an unstable environment for a High rank or G rank mission in 3 Ultimate, 4 Ultimate, and Generations, I always assume that a Deviljho will show up. This way, when a lesser monster shows up, I can breathe a sigh of relief...

...Or become even more freaked out, such as that one mission that has you going up against a Desert Seltas while an Apex Rajang stalks the area.

Oh man this quest. So many freakouts. A real treat to do.

Just fired up my PS 4 and there's an MHW update downloading; looks like they used midnight GMT for the Jho release.

Picked the game back up tonight now that my friend can lay again, discovered what a bazelgeuse is.

Oh god dammit I need more that of that. They made a goddamn organic bomber. The fucking brachydios is giving a thumbs up to that.

That was painful.

I went in to that expedition thinking the talk regarding Deviljho was mostly exaggerated memes; 30 minutes and 4 carts later I killed the damn thing but it thoroughly diabuseded me of that notion.

I honestly think that thing has more health than the elder dragons; couple that with the fact that about the only thing you can hit with most melee attacks are it's legs and how hyper aggressive it is that was one of the most brutal fights I've had.

I was surprised about the timing of the update, too. I’d been expecting it tomorrow, not tonight. Maybe the schedule for North America is based on east coast time?

Deviljho beats your ass with other monsters.

Not alongside them. With them.

I was using the charge blade and I was having a nightmare of a time preparing the big attack and hitting Pickle with it. I didn't manage to land it once. He would either just move out of the way, interrupt me, or just plain fuck off so that when we engaged again, the charge would have worn off and I'd have to start over

Basil's been trolling pretty hard recently too. I was fighting Rathalos in his nest the other day, and Basil got involved, eventually they both flew off, and I stopped to sharpen... and then the bombs Basil left behind went off... and they broke the dam... which fortunately just missed me. Just today as well, fighting Deviljho, Basil flew over on the way to somewhere else, but just dropped some bombs on us because he's a dick.

You know they've built up a reputation for Deviljho when every monster it faces that isn't Bazelgeuse get their shit kicked in, and Bazel only gets through by the skin of its teeth

Made it through the Deviljho quest, but only because someone really good showed up and carried the quest for me. It was not my finest hour.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m usually good at Monster Hunter, but this one is out of my league at the moment. I did my best to contribute, but I got hit so much that I spent half my time just trying to stay alive. There was one point where it was almost dead, but I’d carted twice and I was out of potions, so I used my Farcaster so that I wouldn’t cost us the quest. The other guy finished it off when I was in the tent, and I couldn’t get over in time to carve it.

I also came in with a really awful choice of weapon, and took longer than I should have before deciding to swap it out for a better one. So...yeah, it was embarrassing. Not trying that one again until I get better equipment.

The angry pickle's no joke. I managed to beat the final boss with my Hunting Horn but had to switch back to the Bow to stand a chance against it, and even than it was really touch and go.
