I had never played a Disgaea game before, but lately I picked up Disgaea 5 Complete for the Switch and I'm quite enjoying it. I've also ordered a copy of the DS port of the first game, mainly since I want the portability and extra content but I don't own a PSP or Vita. That said, is there any reason to eventually download the PS 2 classic version of the first game, considering I'm well aware that the DS version is lacking in the presentation department?
Woops, misread what you said. Nah, DS version actually has stuff the PS2 version lacked.

Yeah, the DS version is definitely the way to go if you can't play the PSP or PC versions.
If you want more with the first game's case, Disgaea D2 (not Disgaea 2) is a direct sequel for PS 3 only. 4 is also rather great, but it's only on PS 3 and Vita right now.

I greatly enjoyed 3, it is also only for Vita and PS 3 but unlike 4 the PSTV can not play 3.
I saw that there's a PS 3 disc that has 3, 4, and D2 in the same package as well.
Hitting what might be a weird glitch in Disgaea 5 - some of my characters are "skipping" stars as they rank up classes. For instance, I have Valvatorez getting Lady Samurai ranks, and the second star just stopped when it was 5/6 full and the third star started filling up. Not sure what to do about it!
I think that's an intentional feature of the game. It has happened to me while playing the PS4 version.
I've been playing Makai Kingdom recently. It's more like Phantom Brave than Disgaea, which is a mark against it in my books, but it's entertaining enough, and I finally figured out the "grind level" so that I can get my guys up to speed without worrying about optimization.
Also gave a copy of the Nintendo DS port of Disgaea to the kid of a friend for his birthday this weekend. :) Spreading the word...

I finally got my copy of Disgaea DS as well. Should've gotten it earlier, but there were some problems with the shipping, although thankfully Amazon refunded me for shipping and handling.
It's obviously quite a bit rougher around the edges compared to 5, but features-wise it's surprisingly comparable. I'll probably concentrate more on 5 for now since I'm further into it.
Asagi got monkey pawed like hell, but to her it is Worth It.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru! So I got Disgaea 5 a couple weeks back (plus DLC) and I have to say I enjoyed it thus far. I just unlocked the Carnage Dimension. thanks to everyone's least favorite pseudo necromancer and an Angel reviving Killia
I already figured that the first thing to do afterwards is to get a Carnage item and grind subclasses (well first I'd want to let you-know-who catch up) But I came to this thread to ask about the Recurring Elements of the series.
Disgaea's stats are confusing. Water is wet.
Im playing Disgaea 5 and I have a Fist Weapon for either Killia or Zeroken, Jugular Thrust. The base stats are ATK (188) and SPD (179). Killia and Zeroken have A in Fist Weapons, but Killia has a 120% to his SPD and Zeroken has a 130%. When I equip the weapon to them both, Killia receives 247 to his SPD stat, while Zeroken gets 248.
I'm no math whiz, but 10% of something seems like it'd be more than a single point. I can't figure if there's any other modifier that's just making Killia's stat modification automatically better. None of their Evilities would be affecting this screen I think. If Zeroken is drawing 30% more from weapons that increase SPD, as opposed to Killia drawing only 20% more, shouldn't the difference be more than 1?
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Do Killia and Zeroken have different weapon levels?
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Also check their other equipment. One of them may be getting a rarity bonus boosting the glove. If that's still a thing in 5. I can't recall.
I think it might be the weapon levels. Has to be, I got Zeroken later and haven't spent as much time farming with him.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 confirmed for worldwide release.

I have a D5 question. I wonder if you think the Sage is the equivalent of the Majin classes of earlier titles? Also, was Land Decimator as useful as it was in its other appearances (if any)?
Also, NIS is making a new action RPG involving princesses.

I think I solved the fear/awe energy system of 4 including how out of place it is. Look to D4's top 2 WM Gs for more info.
I'd argue that Usalia is the major Game-Breaker in this game, especially with defense getting a MUCH needed buff due to armor mastery, weapon damage modifiers and the nerfs to skill leveling to affect SP instead of damage. (ie 5 is the first game where defense matters in post game and this game punishes you for playing Rocket Tag like the other game).
The short hand of it is that Usalia can be made into a nearly unkillable tank with damage output almost as good as dedicated attackers (Precious People which feeds off of Anti Bully Aura can turn her from Stone Wall -> Lightning Bruiser)...without spending a single evility point in damage or stat in ATK barring weapons. The secret sauce is in her combos with Christo and Petta. That and her having one of the best Overload Skills in the game.
Also, Petta's Overload Skill is POORLY translated. It is MUCH better than what the translation lets on.
Its not "Refill your lost usage of Overloads" as the wording leads you to believe. It's actually "+1 usage of Overload Skills per battle" (does not affect Petta).
Makai Wars launches Spring 2018.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!... RIP Mobile trash.
Memers, have you played Phantom Brave yet?
It's $10 over at Humble Bundle right now. Most the NIS stuff is on sale, actually.
