perused through the book a bit but it's the same stuff that was already in the Japanese release, just translated and localized, no additional content

kind of a shame that there's no artwork/illustrations from the second wave of DLC (such as the Outrealm versions of Palla, Catria, Est and Katarina)

So in Sacred Stones, anyone else think Ephraim came off a bit Designated Hero-ish in "Fluorspar's Oath?" He kills not just Selena but her entire battalion essentially just for being in the way (and over what ultimately turned out to be a misunderstanding), despite knowing she's the Token Good Teammate perfectly well. It never occurred to him to, like, send an envoy ahead first or something?

I dunno, there's "battlefield tragedy" and then there's "contrivance" and to me, this chapter skirts the line.

I forgot to mention in my last post that my Avatar reached Lv. 20 and I promoted him to Nohr Noble during the last chapter. Following that, I did Kana's paralogue. I did better this time than I did during my Birthright run. I lost fewer units, at least. Kana joined as a Lv. 20 Nohr Princess, so I promoted her to Nohr Noble as well.

Conquest Chapter 18: Black and White

Now, this was another mission that took me more than one try. The mission already started with the party split, and I made the mistake of splitting my forces further, trying to have both sides fight on both fronts, against the sorcerers to the north and the generals to the south. By the time I reached the paired up general bosses, all I had left were units who either couldn't damage them at all, or would get killed on the counter-attack. On my second try, I did better with sending everybody southward to fight the generals, then working my way back up to fight the sorcerers.

Finally, several of my units reached Lv. 20 during that fight, receiving promotions after it was over. I've promoted Elise to Strategist (she's finally a promoted unit like the rest of her siblings, not to mention able to wield tomes). Arthur is now a Hero in class as well as personality. Niles is now an Adventurer, and Beruka is now deadlier than ever as a Wyvern Lord.

The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.

Today, on Alexa's journey in New Mystery

Prologue 1-8

It sure feels weird when your Avatar isn't the tactician. Sure, you get to lead a squad, but Katarina is the tactician in-story,

I choose Pegasus Knight as My Unit's class. Kris is the only Avatar who can fly from the start.

Prologue 8 sure is frustrating. Freaking mages and archers, Why is that guy wielding a Silver Axe with 70% accuracy?

Huh. I didn't think about it at the time, wast just looking for a way to pair up leftover people, but marrying Hinata to Peri makes him quite the tank. It's the only way for him to get Armoured Blow, and he can pick up Warding Blow from Subaki, so on the player phase, he nullifies the penalty from Life or Death.

That's kind of cool.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

>Playing Birthright on Hard
>Gets to Opera House chapter
>Kills everything for EXP and gets some good stat gains from leveling
>Gets super fucking cocky for no reason, goes to attack Garon for some more EXP because Corrin is overleveled AF and she has a Dual Guard to take a hit
>Lets Corrin die like a dumbass because Dual Guard was broken during Player Phase instead of Enemy Phase
>Gets Game Over because Corrin dying = lose for that Chapter
>Rage Quit for the night because like half an hour was wasted by a moment of stupidity

Alexa, what difficulty are you playing New Mystery on? The Barbarians on Prologue 8 wield Silver Axes on Hard and above. Don't forget to take Weapon Rank bonuses into account as well.

My strategy for Prologue 8 is to remain by the throne and have the enemies come towards my units instead of going to them. Once I've taken care of the reinforcements, then I can take my time with the remaining enemies. I usually have someone like Ogma or Cain to deal with the Silver Axe barbarians since those two can take a couple of good hits.

Finished Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest last night. Holy shit, was that rough. I picked up the DLC for XP-grinding because the game would have just been impossible without it. @.@ I don't think it was made with fairly levelling the whole platoon in mind. I think I was supposed to pick a handful of units to just be my mains or something, because I needed to XP-grind a lot to keep up.

I know the game has a Capture mechanic so you can steal enemy units but it's like, I'm having enough trouble keeping the ones with plot relevancy and support conversations and stuff levelled. Why would I want MORE?

The games are pretty much never made with the intention of letting you level everyone. Generally speaking, "pick 12 and roll with them" is the name of the game.

The best capturables really don't matter in terms of keeping them leveled because they provide utility the team otherwise can't really get (early Rally Def from Haitaka, a rain of rallies from Rallyman, and extreme mobility from Pass Falcon Knights).

Today, on Alexa's journey in New Mystery

Chapters 1-6x

Arran has tons of competitions even from the early game. MU and Catria excels in everything except Defense and Silver Lance. By the time Palla and Camus' twin brother show up, he is outclassed. Dropped him on Chapter 5

Luke falls behind not because of poor growth but because he doesn't get enough kills to catch up. Dropped him on Chapter 6 in favor of Caeda.

Marth being the only person able to visit villages is seriously bothersome.

Question: How was Mystery compared to New Mystery in term of difficulty? I assume it was comparable to Normal in term of enemy stats but with same turn reinforcement.

So about skill inheritance in Fates, I assume what skills children get are decided what their parents have as they initiate their S-support.

Them being decided instead when you recruit them would feel silly.

You assume wrong. It's determined when the unit is generated. The timing varies depending on child and map, but the very earliest that it will determine the skills is when you start the paralogue. At that time, it'll use whatever is at the bottom of the parents' list (and if it's like Awakening, if the child already has the skill, it'll work backward up the list, trying to find a non-duplicate).

Oh? So I can have units S-support, re-class one with a Partner Seal, have them level up in their spouses class as much as I want for stats and still be able to pass down any selection of learnt skills as long as I have not entered a Paralogue?

That's pretty neat.

As long as you don't complete the paralogue. If you back out, it'll despawn the child, then re-generate it the next time you come into the paralogue. So, if you accidentally enter the paralogue, don't worry about leaving—it won't screw anything up.

Also, unlike Awakening, parent stats in Fates have a very limited influence on the child's. Instead, the child's growths help determine the majority of its bases.

R Alexa12th: Well, the original Mystery of the Emblem didn't have the benefit of having multiple difficulty levels like New Mystery does. Having played through both parts once, it's about on par with New Mystery's Hard. The original game had lower, uniform stat caps for all classes (52 for HP, 20 for other stats), though late-game enemies can get kind of bulky in the HP department.

Today on Alexa's journey in New Mystery

Chapters 7-10

MU, Catria, and Palla cap Speed (although MU needs a Speedwing, shame on you MU), with MU reaching lv.20. Why does it take so long to get Elysian Whip?

Navarre and Ogma cap speed and promote. Congratulations, you two get into the top 5.

Unpromoted Rody starts to outshine Camus' twin brother, Watch out, Char wannabe.

At this rate I'm afraid I'll have to bench Caeda before she gets 3 star support with Marth, especially when Merric arrives. She is too frail and too weak to kill Mages and Wyvern Riders.

Marth is dangerously behind at lv 11, and it's difficult for him to get in fights in this state (having to visit villages doesn't help). I suppose I'll dump more money to the drill ground.
