Technically, the mod tools are forthcoming, I heard. Guess that's operating on Valve Time as well.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelI thought the game was horrible. Hopefully Gearbox will release a new Duke Nukem someday that isn't a tremendous disappointment.
"I gotta get rid of it before I bail."Even though I thought it's fun, I think it's better if they don't.
It's really time for the Duke to rest. Forever. The release of Duke Nukem Forever was a good thing since it brought closure. One shouldn't destroy it like that. Because of that, it's actually good that it got such a... less than impressive reception, since it makes future games unlikely.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.I'm only one who doesn't mind reviving old franchises? xD
Honestly, old franchises are so old that when they get revived, they could as well be new ones xD
Nyarly, you're probably right, Duke should just take a rest
"I gotta get rid of it before I bail."So, now it will be more like F.E.A.R. 2.
(Oh, and there will be support for Valve Anti-Cheat, which is nice.)

"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelPersonally I think old Duke needs a comeback. In today's politically correct society, we need a testosterone drenched hero to bust through a brick wall, babes in both arms and tell us its ok to be manly. Party on Duke.

It think DNF symbolized how we can't live in the past and move on. Everything shouldn't be held onto because if you keep them too long they lose their original way.
....WhyYou know, if they doubled his life bar and took away the weapon limit it would've been a good game.
The load times are terrible too.
#IceBearForPresidentI'm waiting for some group of fans to mod this game to hell and back, resulting in a more "old school" feel to it that people keep asking for.
The emotions of others can seem like such well guarded mysteries, people 8egin to 8elieve that's how their own emotions should 8e treated.A DN 3 D remake on the DNF engine would be the best thing ever.
Was Jack Mackerel. | i rite gudUm, ok.
Not entirely sure if that can work in this day & age, but sure why not?
It's by the same people that did Cobra Kai, so I can't say I'm not a little intrigued by this.
Time to get excited boys, DUKE'S BACK, BABYYYY
The true sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was Bulletstorm with the Duke Nukem DLC/Story mode. Having Duke as a fish out of water traveler was fantastic. It feels more like a Duke shooter than the Bulletstorm did as its own shooter!
Man, it's weird to see this thread go from 2011, to suddenly skip ahead 11 years later with news about a movie (...why?).
Guess it goes to show how middle of the road the game really was; after the discussion on whether or not Duke's humor was any good dried up, there really wasn't anything left to talk about, and the thread died soon after.

I just don't think that believe Duke can survive in this day & age. There's probably more about the character I don't know.
Eh, as long as the creators don't try to double down on the exaggerated sexual content and instead go for the They Live! stuff, Duke Nukem will be relevant.
Because let's face it, a lot of the issues brought up in They Live! are still applicable today.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWell I can't say much since I never really got into Duke Nuke Em, but I meant to respond more about the massive time gap between the posts.
I think a Duke Nukem movie can work as long as Duke is the biggest part of the joke.
That reminds me a bit of the test script Yahtzee Croshaw was once asked to write for Duke Nukem forever.
Trust me, I would have talked about this a lot more if it weren’t for two things: partly the uncertainty over whether it violated some unspoken non-disclosure arrangement, which I guess isn’t an issue anymore if that video I linked can have a former 3D realms developer gab off about it, but mostly because it wasn’t a terribly interesting story, at least not from my perspective. Brian Hook emailed me asking if I was available for game scriptwriting, and I said yes, because I was. I was asked to do an audition piece so I knocked up a quick and dirty script for a scene that was basically taking all the piss. And don’t ask to see it because it was a couple of hard drives ago.
Until I watched the video above I didn’t even know if anyone had even liked the piece at all, which is probably why I don’t talk about it. All I got told was that it didn’t suit the tone they were going for. I was taking the piss out of Duke himself and they wanted Duke to be relatively straight while the world and the people around him were silly. I didn’t submit a revised audition because that didn’t make any sense to me at all. I would think the only way an action hero as typically 90’s as Duke Nukem could survive today would be with as much irony as possible. I said as much, and thus ended my potential glittering career with 3D Realms.
I think a Duke Nukem that is less about the womanizing and more about dealing with aliens that are a critique of capitalism ala They Live! would still be pretty relevant these days.
Disgusted, but not surprisedCould we get Yahtzee to write the script. He had a really great idea that they substituted for the awful Nukem forever we got.
Yeah that. A self aware over the top parody
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
As far as I've read around, it has sold well on launch and for some more time, and dropped considerably after - in the end, the total estimate sales are projected to be half of how much GBX and 2K expected.
Looking at the UK charts, DNF sprang to the first place in the week it was released there, and stayed third the week after, but then it dropped to the 9th and 27th place [did you notice that every week, its placement is the previous week's multiplied by 3? :D] and finally disappeared from the top 40. Probably the flurry of negative reviews took its toll but I'm inclined to think there's also bad word-of-mouth after the first weeks. Also, taking a peek at the PC section of Gearbox's forums, I see several users lamenting the lack of modding tools, the lack of support for multiplayer, and the general silence of the developer (3D Realms fanboys claiming the game would have had what it lacks if 2K accepted to give them the money to go on with the developments are another thing...)
