I think you just pass a turn. 
I know you can defend in P1 and P2, but yeah, I think you just wait in most of everything else.
I want to say you guard in the old MT/SMT games but I wouldn't know.

Woo, somehow managed to beat Yamato!
Joe hit his team with that one "Reduce enemy to half health thing", and from there it was pretty easy to keep his team dead/kill him with a Fumi/Otome combo.
Sadly, I have a physical MC, so he couldn't do much against him.
Also beat the seventh Septthing, which was a breeze after the previous fight.

I just got Atsuro's ending in the New Game Plus I am really happy that I went for Yuzu's ending first, one shotting everything with high level demos with megido/megidolaon until the Beelzabous fight was fun.
Now I will try to get the Anguished One ending. I remember that the One Stat to Rule Them All for the first game was Magic but I can't remember which one was it for the second one
It's still Magic, but a Strength build is actually viable now that there are more Physical skills and support available.
