A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

Iota was lucky that one of the lasers didn't hit him, even if one came too close for comfort. In responce, he finished his spell, and a tornado of considerable power was launched at Asuka.

Bowser, on the other hand, was thrown into a wall from the force of one of the explosions.

"No!" Chi quickly followed Link in the lake of blood.

Mason got up and staggered towards the pedestal, dodging the exploding pillar things. Suddenly a familiar face was standing in his way.◊
"Retreat Mason. There is no hope for you. You will die. Go home, to where you will survive."
Suddenly, another man◊ shot "Dragovich" and turned to Mason.
"Mason, you have to do this. Just remember what you told me in the broadcasting station, when I was about to retreat."
Both apparitions turned into smoke and drifted away. Mason smiled. He slipped through the gap easily.
He then quoted what he had said in the broadcast station.
"TOO LATE TO BACK OUT, SLAM IT IN!"
He shoved the key into the keyhole, and turned it.

As they dove into the bloody depths of that lake, Link and Chi would feel a sharp pain as the caustic liquid began to slowly eat away at their flesh and clothing; at the moment they were not in any immediate danger, but a prolonged dip in these sanguine waters would almost certainly be fatal. Even with the Lens of Truth pressed firmly to Link's eye, these red waters were murky in the extreme, and it was difficult to see for any distance in any direction; it would take them a moment to spot Lambda, the argent Nomad appearing as a blurred humanoid shape sinking deeper and deeper into the encarmine lake as those corrosive waters slowly ate away at his flowing silver robes—and from the looks of things, he was not moving.

NO!!! Asuka roared, her serpentine lower half whipping forward to snarl at Blink and Mason as they slipped through the gap in the barrier around the Key's pedestal; the viper's mouth split open to launch a scalding torrent of black flames at the two Champions, but at that moment Iota's windstorm engulfed her, and her attack went wide as she was swept up in the cyclonic gale.

Blinding rays of purple light erupted from the keyhole as Mason turned the Key, and the sound of a massive lock being unlatched rang out seemingly from everywhere and nowhere at once. The chamber began to rumble in response to this, the lake of blood rippling and churning in sudden agitation, and with a series of loud hisses of escaping gas the pipes covering every inch of the crucified giantess popped off, spilling their granular black contents everywhere as she slumped forward with a bone-shudderingly deep sigh of what might have been relief. then the chains ensnaring her body came free of that lock over her chest, crashing to the floor in a deafening clatter of giant metal links, and the monster's wrists flowed around the bolts nailing them to the cross and slid free.

The great beast slumped forwards then, and threw out its arms to catch itself; as its massive palms touched the ground, the floor shuddered violently, and the barrier of bone spikes retracted into the ground. Breathing heavily, the giantess slowly lifted her head up to stare at the Champions and their Nomad allies with her four baleful red eyes, her face still concealed behind that long mane of magma-like hair; then her gaze shifted to Asuka, and her eyes seemed to narrow in anger.

You won't take me back, the multi-armed monstrosity hissed, all of her orbs beginning to glow as she prepared to unleash a devastating maelstrom of elemental power; before she could do so, however, one of the giantess' hands shot out at incredible speed to snatch Asuka out of the air, and then the red-clad aspect could do little more than writhe in impotent rage within the grasp of the great beast.

   "EWE HALF BEAN VARY KNOTTY,"    the giantess rumbled, her awful voice seeming to issue forth from everywhere and nowhere at once.    "EWE OUR GO WING BACK WARE EWE BEE LONG."   

"I don't think that's a good sign."

"I agree."

"That's not a good sound..."

Blink toppled off balance at the sudden motion. She scooted away from the giantess, back up against the wall. She was scared, surrpised, and slightly confused about all these happenings. This was good, though, right?

She'd better not be talking to us, thought Sub-Zero.

So that's it? Asuka snarled, her form blurring and flowing like wax until she returned to her original shape. You think you can just reintegrate me and then forget about me? I am you, and you are me; I'll always be a part of you, no matter how much you try to pretend I don't exist.

The giantess was silent for a few moments, save for the deep sound of her breathing; when she next spoke, a note of something that might have been compassion or understanding had entered her voice, and the volume had dropped so that she was no longer booming like one of the titans of old.    "Eye no that watt ewe say hiss true; wee our too sides off the same coin, end Eye ken know more destroy ewe then ewe ken ex is't without me. Butt, Eye understand watt eat hiss that ewe rip resent; Ewe our me, end Eye am ewe, end wee half both suffered four a long time. Wee know longer half two due so alone, Asuka; wee war won once, end wee should bee so again."   

Asuka had no answer to that, and for a few moments a pregnant silence lingered between the gargantuan monster and the small child clutched within its massive hand.

Sub-Zero breathed a sigh of relief. He did NOT want to fight the giantess.

She better accept. I don't want to fight her.

Mason adressed Asuka. Both of her.
"Your husband is drowning in a lake of blood!"

Spriggan went to reload his last magazine for the G36C as he followed Mason and Blink.

"What the hell happened?"

Michael had said, the G4 trainer seeing everyone else battling Asuka. "Specifically that woman?" He, the Stig and Durant had been hanging back to provide the group's rear in case something would attack them from there.

"Don't know, but it looks like that she's the last thing we need to get rid of before we can go home." Durant told him.

Rey groaned slightly from where he was laying, tilting his head back to look at the others. "What the hell is happening back there...?"

"Asuka and Echidna are having a moment, and Lambda's drowning."

Finally, Asuka sighed and lowered her gaze. Get it over with, she muttered, her tone thick with bitterness.

No sooner had these words left her mouth than the jumpsuit-wearing child began to dissolve into a mixture of red, white and brown smoke; her dissolution started at the feet and spread fairly quickly up her body, and in a matter of seconds these multicoloured wisps of vapour were all that remained of the formerly murderous aspect. These too vanished a moment later as the giantess took a very deep sniff, inhaling them in one massive gulp of air.

When this happened, the massive creature shuddered faintly, and glowing geometric lines of purple energy began to spread across her scaly torso and arms, throbbing gently as if in tune to the towering humanoid's pulse. Slowly, her massive head swung ponderously to regard the Champions, and a thick cloud of hot air washed over them as she let out a single, heavy breath.

   "Where is Shinji?"    she demanded, her words much clearer and far less garbled now; it was clear from her tone that she wanted an answer, and that she wanted it now.

"In the lake of blood, Asuka. Link is trying to save him."

Guh... gah...

Ignore... the pain.... keep... going....

Even as the corrosive fluid ate away at the Zora Tunic, Link put on an extra burst of speed, swimming down towards Lambda.

One, two,three .... four minutes of agony. It was getting harder to breathe -

With an intense, final effort, he reached the Nomad, and shot off towards the surface.

Breathe, dammit... breathe!

His lungs were crying out for air, the aquatic properties of the Zora Tunic having been destroyed by the acidic blood.

And with a cry, he burst up to the surface, hoisting the Nomad up onto dry land.

Then, he promptly threw up and fell over, burns and welts all over his bare chest.

Ugh... Made it....

Chi broke the surface not long after. He crawled up the bank and promptly fainted. Hope immediately ran over to see what he could do to help.

Rey managed to roll himself onto his front, eyes widening. "Link...somebody help Link!"

Mason rushed to Link.
"Damn. The lake must be acidic. Hope, you're needed here!"

"Link!" said Sub-Zero. He ran over to the Hyrulian. "You should let someone else save another's life next time. You're going to get killed if you keep this up."

"You can rest now Link. We're all done. We've won the game."
