What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

Hey guys...and gals...I was just browsing through an XKCD strip and ended up learning that Jimmy Carter was attacked by a swimming rabbit.

Anime voice actor Matt Mercer was planning to go to school for animation. Whichever seasoned animation veteran he saught advice from, they all adamantly told him NOT TO, which led to him going into voice-acting instead.

@Xopher: Yes, it would, which is why I found it interesting. I think the subject agreeing to it might make you avoid punishment, but I'll have to look further into it before I can confirm that.

EDIT: No, it does not. So all hypnosis for entertainment is banned.

That when Microsoft says that all support for Windows XP has ended it doesn't actually mean that you won't be spending tons of time downloading hundreds of megabytes of updates for it. Because that's what my baby netbook is doing right now, bless it's little Atom processor cotton socks. [lol]

[up]I was just thinking about that! :D I'm on my brother's Windows 7 netbook, which just had an automatic update, and I started thinking about whether there'd still be XP updates. If you don't want any more updates, you may be able to turn them off (I was just looking to see what OS this netbook has, and noticed an option to to turn automatic updates on or off in the System control panel thingy).

The version of Enrique Iglesias's "Tonight" that I've heard (the one where the chorus goes "tonight I'm lovin' you") is the censored version. The original uses a...much more explicit version of that verb in the chorus.

Betty Boop was originally supposed to be African-American. In fact, she really was, in her first animated appearance. The model she was referenced from was too.

Also, Kubo Tite created a manga before Bleach, called Zombie Powder. It apparently had random passersby call out the main characters name. A lot.

When the Turks control Abbasid they left everything to ruins, which resulted in decimation of the population. Then the Mongols attack and killed off even more.
