What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

[up] As I can't find anything about a Wild Kingdom theme park on Wikipedia, I'm going to assume you meant Animal Kingdom, in which case the answer is no.

I wonder if it can be said that Disney basically founded modern Florida ? Or at least Orlando

[up] Absolutely. According to the definitive book about Walt Disney World, Realityland, Orlando was trees and marshland before Disney moved in there. Apparently the location was chosen because of the weather.

Continuing off my previous post, Ice Age was originally helmed by Don Bluth, and allegedly would have gone in a much darker direction than the final product (maybe akin to The Secret of NIMH?). Since this was around when Pixar was picking up steam, Fox would only accept the movie if it was a CGI comedy.

Apparently when Hour entered English it was a homophone to Whore. Shakespeare had some fun with this.

"From hour to hour we ripe and ripe" would sound very close to "From whore to whore we rape and rape"

Not dead, just feeling like it.

[up][up] In Scots they still sound very similar, being pronounced 'oor' and 'hoor'.

So there you go.

There is a NASA funded site called Astrometry that tells you what each star is from the image. Why didn't anyone told me this? (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

It's so surreal to see that kind of movie made back in 1959. You'd expect it today , and Hollywood would make it a b movie wait nothing's changed has it

It was a B Movie then - the flip side to an A movie made cheaply simply for something a little more out there.

They weren't exactly made to be great, they were either made cheaply just for some to get some experience in front or behind a camera or made for somebody to experiment on something that didn't require too much pumped in.
