What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

well then you must write down all one hundred facts!
New theme music also a boxApparently, there's a slowly developing Cuphead AU, where Devil and King Dice swap places with the titular Cuphead and Mugman themselves. No strong opinions, but that was quick.
" I'm the princess! Everyone has to do what I say!"Then videos that list 100 facts do not ever belong as links on Tvtropes forums, if it hasn't been written already, and I shall wholly delete that entire comment!!!!!!!!
I think the others were joking when they asked you to write them all down. When you post a link, it's polite to tell people what's in it, but that doesn't mean you'd have to list everything. You could've just said "there are 100 bits of trivia in this".
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.NOTHING IN ANYWAY TOLD ME THEY WERE IN ANY WAY JOKING. THIS IS THE INTERNET. ONLY 10% OF YOUR MESSAGE IS TRANSLATED TO SOMEONE ELSE ONLINE.
If you read my post following that, you'd know I wrote down a-that exact thing.

Dude could you stop typing in all caps?
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?my bad, maybe I should have added a disclaimer or something.
New theme music also a boxI just learned about a new movie called The Mountain Between Us, in which a neurosurgeon is flying to Denver in order to operate on a 10-year-old. (Other stuff happens, too, but that's not important right now)
The movie starts with a massive, gaping plot hole! Neurosurgeon! Flying to Denver! LOLOL The Denver area is home to Children's Hospital Colorado! They're one of the top-ranked children's hospitals in the country. They don't fly in doctors, they fly in patients from all over the Rocky Mountain region because they're that big and that good. And they train neurosurgeons! There is no reason why a neurosurgeon would need to fly to Denver, unless they're an intern just starting a residency at one of Denver's teaching hospitals.

I only realized in the last year or two what "casting couch" actually refers to. I always thought it referred to a waiting area (real or figurative) where actors would sit while waiting to audition or be assigned a role.
Apparently the 1 year anniversary of the We Are Number One meme is happening.
" I'm the princess! Everyone has to do what I say!"The word "hello" didn't appear in the English language until the 1820s, and then it didn't become widely used until the invention of the telephone.
I like to keep my audience riveted.Novocain, the dental anesthetic, contains epinephrine. Sometimes that epi has a systemic effect, and causes the patient to freak the hell out. That just happened to me! I got a filling, so I had novocain. That caused a systemic reaction, which caused a panic attack (oh hi, anxiety disorder, I'd nearly forgotten about you!), which caused a muscle spasm.
They put the epinephrine in there to control bleeding, btw. They're not just doing it For the Evulz.

Pickles (the full size kind) are about 10 calories apiece.
Dogs get dandruff, though I had long suspected that to be the case.
Blog linkDander, not dandruff.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.Halloween-themed lawn flamingoes exist. So do cocktails (yes more than one!) containing mayonnaise.
Key Lime Cove has closed down. I also found out that Gurnee, Illinois was its only location. I always thought it was a nationwide chain.
I like to keep my audience riveted.Looks like the Cubs won't be getting to the World Series for a second time in a row after all. :(
I like to keep my audience riveted.I only just figured out that the avatar gallery uploader thing let you crop somewhat large images so you can use them as an avatar. I've been struggling to find a decent picture this entire time.
Oops.
By 1984, McDonald's had already closed at least two stores in Michigan. One was in a former Packard dealership in Detroit and was apparently the largest in the world for a time; the other was in Lansing and was closed because they were unable to add a drive-thru window. It also looks like a third store in Kalamazoo had already closed by 1988 for similar reasons. (Note that this doesn't count stores that moved.)
It's just weird to think of a chain that big closing stores back then.
For a given value of "very recently" (it's been months since now) but took me surprisingly long for someone who spends so much time on the computer to learn my computer/OS actually has a built-in snipping tool for screenshots. Just didn't occur to me there might be anything beyond regular printscreen which I've already been used to for years since I was a kid and that I've been okay with (up until now... can't go back after this) so I didn't specifically go looking for it but now that I know about it it's way more convenient (especially because when I'm connected to my Cintiq tablet, it copies BOTH the screens on my laptop and tablet screen)

"Leftover items still have value!"Apparently you shouldn't smile at a crocodile. I've been living my whole life wrong.
To anyone who read that and thought "huh, which OS/program is that" — it's called Snipping Tool in Windows, which has had it since at least 7, probably Vista.
If other OSes have such a thing, that's beyond my knowledge, but I imagine someone will drop in and mention it soon enough.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.
... there are 100 individual facts in that video.
