Yep, was posted a few days back. Right now we're waiting on another issue to be translated because there's a interview with Yoko there.

Did a lot of stuff tonight. Competed a bunch of side-quests, recruited Emil, went through the top-down area that was the laboratory, ending with Emil becoming a masked creature (so that's what Yoko Taro was referencing at E3 tongue), saved Kaine, fought Shade!Kaine, got her back to normal, and now am going on a Zelda-esque "collect all pieces of this do-dad" part of the story.

And I absolutely refuse to do the "Life in the Sands" quest. No way am I touching it. tongue

So guys... I had a thought.

What if when the game is released they package it with a demo for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and play that up on advertising?

most people would just remember it as "that game that came with the ff7 remake demo" ):

but it would get a lot more people to buy the game, yeah

I guess that's the problem with the Zone Of The Enders/Metal Gear Solid 2 model. The game becomes a guaranteed hit but also loses it's own identity.

It's possible they could find some way to encourage or even reward demo-players to try the game as well, but I am not sure if there is a way to make it work for, say, more than half of the people who are trying the demo.

Hmmmm, maybe include some Old Save Bonus if you have a cleared Nier 2 save once you start playing the full FF 7 Remake game?

[up]You know what would be perfect? (And likely highly improbable?) If they not only gave you a Clear Save Bonus from playing FFVII with a Nier 2 save, but have the bonus from said save be Papa!Nier as a secret character. I don't care if doesn't make any goshdarn sense, it'd still be playing as Papa!Nier in FFVII. Life couldn't get any sweeter than that.

[up]Actually... I can sorta see Taro doing that or something close enough. Just for sheer "lulz" factor.

I heavily doubt SE would agree to that though, unless, say, Nomura was a huge Nier fan or something.

well, I'm pretty sure SOMEONE at SE likes Nie R, given that the drakengard main series got another game AND Nie R itself got a proper sequel, despite them being niche (though still moderately profitable) titles in a dying console market.

however, it would almost certainly be brother nier] who'd make any kind of cameo or guest appearance in any SE game, because he's considered the "canon" version of the character. most of the stories in grimoire nier are written him in mind, he's the one most japanese players know, and he's the original conceptualization of the character.

hell just look at the anniversary image for drakengard. kind of unfortunate since i love papa nier, but oh well ):

I kinda wish Nowe switched places with Nier in that image, it kinda feels weird having both Zero and Caim having Mikhail and Angelus behind them but not him and Legna.

And don't worry, I feel the same with male!Revya from Soul Nomad.

[up][up] If that does end up being the case and they basically pretend that Papa!Nier didn't happen and considering that Taro said they wouldn't do a dual-release thing for the new game, I could see that as reason for SE to have Replicant released internationally via digital download. If only to get people who only know of Papa!Nier to be more familiar with what Japan considers to be the one, true Nier.

wild mass guess If they do end up rereleasing Replicant to international shores with an English dub, Brother!Nier will be voiced by Bryce Papenbrook. wild mass guess

he wasn't exactly a highlight of Drakengard 2 according to most fans.

and yeah, i could see them releasing replicant via digital download, although just slapping the subtitles/translation from gestalt wouldn't be enough.

[up] Yeah, especially considering that Replicant has you as a teen and a brother and not as a man and a dad.

So wait, how come some of you guys find the whole "dad saving his young sickly daughter" concept better than the "older brother saving his younger sickly sister"? Is it because JRP Gs are sort of over-saturated with concepts similar to the latter that concepts like the former are considered refreshing?

Because I always thought we're starting to see a little too much of the former concept stateside than we do of the latter.

And besides, wouldn't the latter be more tragic and gripping because Hello! We're talking about two kids with no parents at all fending for themselves in the dark cruel world?

YoKab Since: Jan, 2015

I think thing was that in Replicant Neir was pretty much more like your typical teenage fantasy protagonist. I think Father!Nier was better as a character not as a concept, he's much more tormented and going insane, someone who becomes fine with genocide to save his daughter. The times where Nier acted recklessly were either due to acting like a stupid teenager or an insane Blood Knight who killed and seen too many, I guess the latter made more sense? As for which one we had more saturated more than the other, Nier came out at 2010 where the whole "Father guy gruff" wasn't becoming a trend as of yet, and it works, how many JRPGs cast you as the father?

I think it's that insanity is more clear for Father!Nier than Brother!Nier, and people like main characters being a bit insane.

[up][up]Part of it is the novelty of playing as a father in a JRPG. The other part is that a father trying to save his daughter is just more powerful than a brother trying to save his sister, IMO. It's one of those things you can't necessarily explain in words. It's just a more relatable, primordial concept that speaks to you in ways a brother saving his sister can't. I don't really know how to explain it better than that.

it's because the whole brother/sister thing is very common in japanese media (you even see people use "imouto" rather than sister because it's such a ubiquitious thing), and a father trying to care for his daughter is just a more relatable, primordial concept to westerners as said above. and it's a VERY rare thing for the protagonist in a lot of japanese nerd media to be a struggling father by contrast, ESPECIALLY in a JRPG. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the concept only in like 2 more really old obscure games.

and to elaborate on that further, there's a pretty important difference in the nature of the two relationships; brother nier cares about yonah obviously, she's the only family he has left, but he's also partly taking care of her out of a sense of duty. i have read that the scenario writer sawako natori actually wanted to include dialogue that would more realistically convey what this relationship would be like, which to me implies that maybe brother nier resents yonah in some way because he's been forced to be a surrogate parent instead of having a proper childhood and adolescence (though that's supposition on my part, it would make a lot of sense). Yoko vetoed this because he thought it would be too depressing (yes, apparently even Yoko thought that it was too much).

by contrast, father's relationship with Yonah is based ENTIRELY on love, he's long past the point where his own pursuits and desires matter. taking care of yonah is the only thing that matters to him.

this is also why ending C fits father nier better, and ending D fits brother nier better. Brother Nie R's duty has been fulfilled because Yonah is grown-up and she doesn't need him anymore, the people in the village are more than willing to help her and kainé will be around too (and although he doesn't know it emil is still around too, although how much help he could possibly be as a diesmbodied head i have no idea). he's also a really different person at that point and he's been so embittered and single-minded in his quest to save her that he doesn't have any other purpose in his life. he's younger, more impulsive and the romantic relationship between the two is more strongly implied in replicant. yonah doesn't need him anymore, but he can at least help kainé.

Mind, whether something is relatable or not to you is case-by-case.

Design-wise at least, I find brother Nier more appealing than Papa Nier, since I am not that fond of the buff macho look.

Just a random topic, but what if the games musical style would be something close to Akiko Shikata's style? I know Keiichi Okabe has a different style, but what would you think if that was the case since he was told to once again hold a different style compared to previous games?

Here are some examples in case you are not aware of her, Akakakushi, XaaaCi, Katayoku no Tori. Also just throwing this in, it is done by an artist called Morrigian but follows the same style.

That'd be interesting.

Also played more of the game. Got the key fragment from the Lost Woods (was this like a darker take on the Giving Tree?) and also did the first part of the Junk Heap. Not to mention doing a few side-quests.

I'm doing as many side-quests as I can now so that on New-Game +, I can sit back and just experience the story.

[up]If you're not at the halfway point yet, than doing the sidequests now is the only way to do most of them anyway, because the New Game Plus only starts you off at said halfway point.

Interesting.

Anyways, did some more sidequests, and got the keys from The Aerie (how much more must Emil suffer, I gotta ask), and the Junk Heap (talk about Sanity Slippage). Also, I can't shake the feeling that the main protagonist is getting a bit too into the whole "killing Shades" business, and that said Shades have more to them than meets the eye.
