This thread is a generic thread for all the amazing Manhwa there are. I encourage you to create thread for specific Manhwa if you feel they deserve one.

I have been reading quite a few Manhwa now-a-days, and I though they deserve a thread. My reading list includes Veritas, The Breaker and Zippy Ziggy, plus a little bit of Ping before I got bored of it. I have recently picked up AflameInferno, Shade - The Other Side of Light and WitchcraftTroops, let's see how that turns out.

The main things I noticed (in comparision to Manga)were these:

So far My experience with Manhwa is that art-wise, they go nuts, but story-wise, they remain quite restrained, they generally revolve around a few popular Genre.

Also, I have noticed is the lack of any animated adaptation of the Manhwa by the [[Han-gukManhwaAenimeisyeon local animation industry]]. They may have amazing artist, but no anime-studios as such. Look at Winter Sonata for example, Korean story, Korean seiyuu, but Japanese Studio. The only Korean made Anime that I know of is MaskMan

So what's your opinion?

The only experience I have with Manhwa is the first couple of volumes of Priest...

I'm not really familiar with Korean culture, so I don't "get" a lot of it, but my impression is that Manwha tends to be Darker and Edgier than manga.

The Supernatural Martial Arts strikes me as being heavily influenced by Chinese Wuxia (and to be honest I think this is something that nobody is better at doing.)

Oh, yes. Nobody can do crazy kung-fu like wuxia comics.

I got the latest volume of Fung Wan I could find when I went back to Singapore. It's melodramatic and hammy, but damn, the fighting is gorgeous.

Also, Ragnarok is still awesome and underrated.

Fung Wan (known as Storm Riders in the West. Fung Wan, which is the Cantonese pronunciation, translates to Wind and Cloud) is awesome.

Well, the first mega-arc was awesome, as was the first two thirds of the second. Then they went on a dragon slaying quest, and the dragon looked like Godzilla. And then Wind and Cloud went missing in action - again - and I dropped it.

Try one of the many sites referenced here

Incidentally, Why are there a lot of Kang Shin-? in Manhwa? Why is this name so popular?

I think best answer to that is S. Korea doesn't have the business model that would allow it's Manhwa to be animated easily like the Japanese.

I like shunjeong or however it's spelled (the equivalent to shoujo), so I'll recommend Goong (trashy relationship melodrama at its finest) and Bride Of The Water God (plot incomprehensible, art unbelievable - sooo pretty). And there's some great manhwa Boys' Love, for anyone into that.

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.

No, it hasn't finished! It's never finished! It's been five years since the last volume, and Lee Myung-Jin has been unheard from since the MMPORG!

So, after looking at them, I have decide to continue with Aflame Inferno only. Witchcraft Troops has lots of Walls of Text, and Shade is boring and Cliched.

Incidently, have you made any connection with a Manhwa and a similarly themed Manga?

Well, if that is the case, then that is frankly stupid. They can animate foreign movies and stuff, but not their own Manhwa??

Alas, there go my dreams of seeing Veritas animated...

Not sure what you mean.

Well, Korean manhwa heroes seem to more like Jerkasses, there's less Faux Action Girls, hardly any Chinese People stereotypes, and the stories do seem darker and edgier.

Well animation in Korea is generally considered kids stuff. Korean animation for TV is rather recent development. I think the first animated TV show dates back to the late 80's.

I too would love to see Veritas animated but seeing it animated is far less likely than a live action adaption. The only manhwa that I know of that ever got animated are Blackgod/Kurokami and Shin Angyou Onshi and they were published in Japan.

Speaking of Veritas, I've seen several spoilers and raws for the upcoming chapters, 75 or so. Plus, Gangryoung's upcoming Crowning Moment Of Awesome, in English. At least I understand why it's such a big deal when Gangryong does it.

New veritas chapter out. Maybe we should make it's own thread.

Maybe you should. Veritas seems to be one of more popular Manhwa. Gangryong is like a depowered version of Kenpachi but still packing the crazy attitude.

Guilty pleasure? You're talking about Fetish Fuel in that manhwa?

Speaking of other Guilty Pleasure manhwa, I'd say Freezing fits the bill. Uber violent Catholic school girls that fight each other and monsters.

The mangafox page for Witch Hunter hasn't updated in well over a year. Has anyone else translated the newer chapters, and if so, where can I find them?

One thing do notice about manhwa is that heros there seem to be Jerkasses more.

Yeah, I read that one. I think it's on "hiatus".

EDIT: More to the point, the story is based on a folk tale. It's about a guy who's stuck with a Fairy but as the story goes on there's hints that the fairy being stuck in the mortal world wasn't an accident. it's was an excuse to find out more about her human father.

Right now, I'm enjoying Trace. It's a webtoon (webcomic) about what amounts to superheroes. It feels a lot like Heroes except with more coherent plot and more interesting characters.

I've read that. It seems to be the longest running manhwa I've seen yet with 140+ chapters. It very similar to Half Prince except more manly.
