Mikami is working with Platinum Games on what seems to be a spiritual successor to P.N.03 with a few of Resident Evil 4's and Bayonetta's combat trappings.

It's called Vanquish, and I guess this is as good a time as any to discuss it: http://scrawlfx.com/2010/04/new-vanquish-screenshots-augment-reality

Good to see a TPS that doesn't rely entirely on a cover system for its core combat.

That looks exactly like Gears of Mass Effect 2. It's not overly shaded enough for a Suda51 game.

Can't imagine how they thought that PN 04 was in need of a spiritual successor, but considering their tracks records I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Everything considered by the pedigree, it'll probably end up being a Deconstruction of A Space Marine Is You. It better be. I'm sick of russians being Always Chaotic Evil.

I'm loving the visuals. Lots of cool-looking armor and weapon designs are a definite plus in my book. Can't wait to see it in motion.

First gameplay trailer.

Looks like a generic excuse plot. I expect a lot of RE 4-esque cheese.

I ANTICIPATE RE 4-style cheese.

To me, it doesn't seem like Russians are evil in this game, just one dictator who has an army of robots. That being said, I think they missed a golden opportunity to make the bad guys Chinese. With the "cyber warfare" that's in the news these days, a futuristic, villainous China having an army of killer robots would be par on course.

It's not a suda game. I think the only time he and mikami did anything toghether was Resident Evil 4, and I'm not even sure if suda had to do anything other than approving their use of the regenerators and iron maiden and Kaede's pistol.

That said, I like this game because it looks more focused on mobility rather than gunplay and the super soldier dude actually does insane things on gameplay, like meleeing a robot with a missile.

Hm, I do recall that somewhere Suda51 said he would be teaming up with Platinum games again for something, I think it was either a FPS or a horror game (or maybe both?)

I think suda teamed up with someone for Fatal Frame IV but I'm not sure.

^^Horror Game. Man If only there was some gameplay at E3. Oh well.

^ Suda teamed up with Tecmo for Fatal Frame IV. Tecmo makes the Fatal Frame series.

Actually Suda is supposed to be teaming up with Mikami.

Supposedly EA will be funding that project.

Guy playing probably wont be making any perfect run videos anytime soon.

Plot's horrible.

Gameplay seems derivative.

Graphics are only slightly above average.

Voiceovers are belove average.

Then why do I want to play this so bad?

^ "Plot's horrible."

Welcome to 99.9% of videogames.

"Gameplay seems derivative."

I'm assuming you're using that word in the neutral sense.

"Graphics are only slightly above average."

Which makes them good yes?

"Voiceovers are belove average."

So they're both below and above?

Seemed pretty decent to me. The dialogue is pretty cheesy though, if that's what you mean; though that's more an issue of the writing than the acting.

"Then why do I want to play this so bad?"

Because you know it will probably be great(see crazy in the best possible way). Search your heart, you know it to be true.

How come the gameplay is derivative? Not only this game is focused on mobility instead of gunplay (as I already said) but you get actively penalized for staying too long on cover, and also have the ability to penalize your enemies yourself if they do the same thing.

Platnium Games turns cheese into win, a lot of their stuff is cheesy and campy in a way.

Saw the latest trailer. I'm on board. Hell, if it's half as good as Bayonetta then it's still gonna be one of the best action games ever made.

Although that first trailer was HILARIOUS. "We have 24 hours to stop that from happening. We will... Stop that from happening." Talk about Narm.

Still, i'm not going to be playing it for the RIVETING dialogue.

One question: Why is it rated M? All your enemies are robots, so the team could easily have made it rated T if they wanted... Reminds me of Red Faction Guerilla: Perfectly T-rated game with a bunch of F-bombs scattered about random NPC dialogue for no discernable reason. Blah.

It's basically a Japanese version of Halo with Gears Of War mixed in.

A bunch on new screens(seriously, a lot) along with a new blog from Platinum Games: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=22786697&postcount=185

Includes images of a cute enemy robot that transforms into cover and a large enemy robot with a Gun-Lance that can switch between bipedal and quadrupedal movement(in which case the lance becomes its tail).

Also more stuff about weapons, Sam(the protagonist) has a weapon that can imitate different guns(only 3 at a time). Like Resident Evil 4 different guns can be upgraded(I've yet to find out how, though).

@ Grahamr

the game did have the Chinese as villains at first but they where changed to Russians because "Western audiences couldn't get their heads round the idea"

http://kotaku.com/5616543/americans-get-russia-fighting-the-us

I begin with the principle that all men are bores. Surely no one will prove himself so great a bore as to contradict me in this.

It's also Gears Of War on amphetamines. It uses a cover system... but the cover system degrades extremely quickly, so you have to keep moving.
