I wonder if Sgt. Night is meant to be the Wily stand-in or a separate character.

If nothing else, I'm curious about original characters' designs and names ^^ The Ruby-Spears cartoon had some interesting original humans and robots.

I am curious, but this stuff is not appealing to me so far.

However if Sgt Night is supposed to be the villain. Why would they give him such a low rank. Would not Commander Night or General Night sound better.

Sergeant is a noncomissioned rank. Maybe they're trying to give him the feel of a guy who's not afraid to get his hands dirty?

Colonel is a viable option for someone who want to "get their hands dirty".

And who says he isn't Dr. Albert Wily? (Although, in that case, I would have named him Colonel X... and revel in the consternation that I cause the X fans... Though I guess the question becomes "why aren't they going with the canon deception?)

Colonel and General are taken and as everyone knows you can't have two of the same thing

I'm willing to stan for the cartoon if only because "Mega Man in High School" was the concept of the awesome Dreamwave comic.

I miss Archie Mega Man.

I guess it helps that Megaman is a multitude of characters. They could plausibly this to be "another" version of Megaman rather than an adaptation of an already existing one.

I'm fine with Rock (because that's his name; he doesn't need an alias) going to school. That sounds like good stuff. I liked Robot Boy, and this would just cut out the obligatory not robot boy. Have fun little moral stuff for the kids and a robot battle to cap it off. If it was just that, I wouldn't mind this.

I really hate that Capcom decided to rename Rockman to Megaman. Not only did that really fuck up Legends and the naming scheme of the original series, it also made the ZX series lesser since "ROCK On!" is a much better transformation call than "Megamerge!"

On the other hand, 'Rockman' is kind of a lame name unless he can actually, you know, turn into rocks. Or at least have rock-related powers. At least Megaman has some oomph to it.

Until you realize it means "rock" as in "Hard Rock" and "Rock'n Roll". "Mega Man" by contrast, sounds generic, alliteration aside.

Also rock, paper, scissors since that's the basis of the weakness weapons

Still sounds lame. Just call him Rock. Straight and to the point.

I hear that his original name was going to be Rainbow Kid because of the glitch that became weapons having different colored Mega Rocks

Also I'm okay with Mega Man being his Super fighting robot name and Rock being his given name

If his name is Rock and he super robot fights as Rock Man that's kinda dumb. Clarkman dumb

I'm fine with Mega Man as long as he's also Rock. Mega is just stupid.

they had to rename him to Mega Man for the west because the name was trademarked already. y'know, similar to the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior thing for the first few localized games

Who the hell trademarked Rockman?

I recall reading that Rockman became Mega Man because at the time, "rocks" were slang for crack or some other drug. And I think maybe because hooligans could easily change the "R" to a "C" so it would spell...you know.

wait, nevermind, apparently its not because of copyright issues (which the series' Trivia page on here also seems to think).

former Capcom senior vice president Joseph Morici thought that "Rockman" was a horrible title.
