[up][up] and [up] Thanks

EDIT: New question: Anyone here think that, out of the three men who voiced Zero in English, it's Jack Merluzzi from X7 who sounded like a Shell-Shocked Veteran, wherein Lucas Gilbertson and Johnny Yong Bosch don't sound shell-shocked at all?

So, three new episodes of the living embodiment of Seasonal Rot Rockman Exe Stream were released.

There actually is a plot in there, though it's still painfully clear that Cross Fusion completely took over the series.

What really has me bring this up, is that this series started around 2005 or so, meaning this show is ten years old now.

Its scary to realize stuff that doesn't seem that long ago has been off the air for years.

Again, I'm reminded of how Exe was too early, and that it might have flourished much better in the current 3DS market than the Game Boy Advance market.

Then again, Mega Man as a whole seems to have been abandoned by Cap Com. Only the Zero Series, Exe, Ryusei, and I guess, the X series had definitive endings.

Ah well.

If I'm ever going to take one thing away from Stream, it's that it's the only anime (or piece of media in general for that matter) to actually name someone "Jackass".

Stream always struck me as an example of Executive Meddling. I remember seeing speculation way back when the show was still airing (first anime I followed week to week!) that the staff had been told to make it more sentai-like because it was airing in a timeslot right before an ongoing sentai show, and then the studio having to put out a movie too at the same time obviously affected the show's production, explaining why it looked like crap most of the time. It was pretty obvious even at the time that plans were scrapped mid-run. When the whole series is finally subbed it'll be interesting to see how much of the plot, such as it is, holds up from start to finish.

Sorry. I meant more along the lines of being subbed. They are now up to episode 37.

[up]

Agreed. I'm understanding little things that I missed out on due to my inability to understand Japanese. I still think it's pretty weak (due to the reasons you mentioned) but knowing what everyone is saying does make things a little better.

Since we're on the topic of the anime, I own the Battle Network artbook, and I was surprised to see that the game artists were the ones to design a number of the anime-only characters, like Slur and all of the Cross Fusion designs. Both the Axess and Stream versions of R-Megaman were actually derived from old concept sketches for Megaman.EXE (particularly the helmet fins).

Wow. I didn't know that.

Truthfully, I prefer the Axess version of R-Mega Man to the Stream version, mainly due to the Fins.

Alternatively, I liked the Stream Version of R-Protoman more than the Axess version.

I wonder what things would be like if the Exe series had kept going, or if they'd changed to a new hero a little sooner?

Ended up buying Mega Man 5, 6, and 7, as well as II, III, and IV due to the eShop sale earlier.

5 is a fun game like I remember it; it's the Mega Man game I played most as a little kid, although it was Rockman5 when I played it back then. Certainly on the easy side, but still fun and well designed. 6 is also similar, although the Rush adaptors was a fun twist.

7 started to feel more like an X game than a proper Classic-style game for me. It's fun, although I now understand the complaints people had of its last boss. Bass/Forte is a nice inclusion to the series, the fights involving him are fun.

Overall, these are all fairly solid and fun games; perhaps a little underrated. I do think, however, that the charged shot is a bit of an issue; it drives the other weapons into the background rather often and I generally enjoy the uncharged shot play more from the first three games and 9 and 10. Slide is rather forgettable as well.

As for II, III, IV... I beat II and a bit of III but don't really feel like playing them much more.

The final boss of MM 7 became easier/doable once I figured out that the Thunder Bolt could be used to force him into only using an easy to dodge attack pattern.

[up][up]II is garbage. III is better, but it's a tough, grueling game. IV and V however, are fantastic and easily the best of the GB Games, and honestly up there with the NES Games as well.

II, while majorly suffering under the poor "instrument" usage, actually had a fairly solid soundtrack in terms of melody and composition, imo. Rush Jet 1 did a remaster of the Mega Man II soundtrack, and I think it sounds really good! It helps that the tunes aren't so high-pitched that one gets the impression that the original componist tried to make everyone deaf.

I just started these "Megaman Races" and some of them are dated 2015, so I'm assuming this practice is fairly recent. These competitions are pretty cool.

The TruForce MMX figure has reached its funding goal. Can't remember if I posted about this in here. If I haven't, basically, Tru Force Collectables are making an action figure based off that badass april fools X design, and it looks goddamn boss.

As a bonus, in the updates, they revealed that the ride chaser design for the print included in one of the tiers is gonna be a companion product later on and that the design will be revealed in mid-March once Capcom signs off on it.

I find it interesting that they refer to Capcom rather than the designer, which implies that there's a bunch of people involved in the design at Capcom. I shouldn't read too much into it, though, getting my hopes up won't be healthy.

Wait, the picture they used for design was drawn by someone at Capcom as an April Fool's joke? Why isn't that his official design in Mega Man X9?! It's so badass!

I really want more Mega Man X. Or ZX. Or Legends. Or anything other than Classic.

I also played Mega Man Maverick Hunter X a while ago and it made me sad that it was never continued. I would have loved to see what they did to the later games.

At the very least I plan on continuing the Maverick Hunter X series' plot through fics at a later date, but I just got to work up the brainstorms to get the ideas flowing.

I think an advantage of Maverick Hunter X sequel fics is that A.you don't need to follow the games exactly (after all, Maverick Hunter X took a few liberties with X1's story while keeping the gist of it) and you have the advantage of hindsight.

Folks who were retroactively implied to be around during those games but introduced in later games (like pretty much the entire supporting cast introduced in X5, hell, I think Signas even has a small cameo in Day of Sigma), folks who will be antagonists later can be introduced as supporting characters earlier (for example, introducing the Repliforce during X3 and implying that they are fighting the bulk of Doppler's forces off screen while X and Zero get down to the heart of the problem, or including Dynamo somewhere and explaining why he has such a high Hunter rank if he is a Maverick-leaning mercenary)

But I'm rambling now.

I'd honestly prefer an "Ultimate Universe"-style deal with more flexibility for events and characters, such as my outline of a reboot earlier in the thread. I'm actually doing a RP along the lines of that premise on another board, and we've already basically shut down the possibility of the Zero series ever happening by default for a whole bunch of reasons, among other things. Maverick Hunter X is nice, but I honestly feel like it's too constrained to the original canon for its own good.

Maverick Hunter X wasn't "constrained" by canon. If I recall correctly, MHX was supposed to be the story that Inafune had in mind from the beginning but couldn't tell for various reasons. It was a reboot so much as an expanded Updated Re-release.

Well, fair enough, if that's the story Inafune really wanted to tell, but that's pretty much out of the question now that he's no longer with Capcom (speaking of which, he really should've waited until Legends 3 and Universe was completed before he jumped ship, since he still had considerable clout at Capcom). Inevitably, someone else will have to pick up the slack if the X-series is continued, and even Inafune himself gave the green light to that abominable FPS reboot.

Again, wouldn't go as far as the cancelled reboot, but there a lot of aspects of the original canon that are completely nonsensical, probably the worst being X somehow being lost and then discovered a hundred years later (which is really the only reason Dr. Cain exists).

[up][up] He wasn't "lost". He was purposefully sealed away by Dr. Light because he believed that humanity wasn't ready to accept an android like X and because he wanted to run enough morality tests on him to make sure he wouldn't be evil.

[up][up] Not really a convincing explanation, the lab of the father of robotics would not simply be lost, you'd think the scientific community would demand to have it uncovered pretty much immediately. Even if Light had a secret lab, in the information age, I doubt it would've stayed secret for long. How the hell X's capsule went undiscovered for more than a couple of years at the very most is baffling.

[up] Well, Light should've entrusted X's capsule to someone he trusts, say, the Cossacks, rather than just leaving the damn thing in whatever lab he left it in for any tenacious moron to find.

[up] He might not have been able to move the capsule while it was doing whatever it was doing. He also might not have fully trusted the Cossacks. I also can't see how it matters who found X since the outcome should have been relatively the same.
