I'm almost afraid to draw attention to it because you just know that it's going to be C&D'd.

I read an old Mega Man X-Treme 2 ad in Nintendo Power that mistakenly said X and Zero were battling Dr. Wily's robots. It also said Zero was a member of Maverick Hunting Unit 17.

I can see Wily making Berkana and whatshisname, now that i think about it XD

So, who else has thought about a hypothetical remake of Mega Man 3 done with graphics inspired by The Protomen?

Well, since the main story of The Protomen takes place during 3, that's the one it'd make more sense for.

Back to this, It's well drawn but the designs feel pretty boring thematically. Lunar and the skate guy are cool in concept but could use a more developed look.

Any get the feeling Westwood Studios got the idea of Kane from Sigma? Why? Let's list down the similarities:

1. Both are bald.

2. Both are Large Hams.

3. Both keep coming back from the dead.

Sigma is pretty blatantly based on Braking Boss from Casshern. (likewise, X and his X1 armor also resembles Casshern himself)

I somehow doubt that Capcom Japan is aware of some obscure video game character from the other side of the world.

[up][up] With that thin a criteria you could extend that to M. Bison too.

Not to mention Mega Man X came out years before Command And Conquer 1 did.

Braiking Boss.

[1]

Sigma and M Bison both look like him.

M. Bison (and probably Braking Boss, or at least his hat) was based on a earlier character, Yasunori Kato (villain of Teito Monogatari, and it's anime adaptation Doomed Megalopolis).

Kato is like, Japanese Dracula, super iconic and an easy target to rip off if you want a cool villain. Especially one with a cool hat.

What part of "Westwood Studios got the idea" didn't you get?

@ maxwellelvis

Not to mention Mega Man X came out years before Command And Conquer 1 did.

I knew that. Hence "Westwood Studios got the idea."

Ah, sorry, I misread your poorly phrased insane theory of the day.

Anyway, somehow I doubt Westwood was paying close attention to Mega Man of all things for inspiration for their real time tactics game. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know or care about Mega Man at all, much less know who Sigma is.

Seriously, it's a mighty stretch to assume that the two characters are related at all, the similarities are superficial and really minor.

Considering that in his first appearance, Kane was just a guy in a black button shirt, I doubt Westwood was thinking of Sigma when they created him.

It's more design tropes at work honestly. Kain is bald because the designers probably figured it would make him look intimidating/evil. He's a large ham because it's entertaining and would give him a kind of intensity as a villain, and he keeps coming back because he's a popular villain and they don't want to kill him off.

A corpse should be left well enough alone...

Are you guys aware there is a Real Life guy named Dr. Weil?

And he wrote a book on healthy aging?

With this line present? “God grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.”

Very likely disguise, doctor.

Wikipedia - We Give Mad Scientists wiki pages.

He has a wikipedia page, is involved in some kind of weird, kooky naturopathic medicine campaign (likely story, Doc, I'm not taking ANYTHING you advise me to take - it'll probably make me try to kill Zero), and has written numerous books (most likely laced with Genocide Nanites).
