In which we get updates from the lives of tropers. Kinda like Twitter with more than 140 characters, but less than a blog or LJ.

Please refrain from excess venting in this thread. Talking about negative emotions is fine but it's best not to dwell on them for too long. TV Tropes is not suited to deal with mental health situations.

This is far from the first thing I've had published (I'm the only troper I know of that's a full-time writer) but thank you very much.

But anyway, I'm kind of baffled by some of the responses here. Since when is the term "doesn't play well with others?" sufficient to describe people who threaten to sodomize trans-women to death?

Ah, you colonials and your inability to appreciate understatement.

At my first performance review, they said they were considering me for a training position. Instead I picked up other areas.

So my older sister texts me and tells me to buy flowers and a card for my mother who had a bad day, so I willingly do.

I get home and find out that it was because Mom had gotten fired for what sounded like a simple accident, but she didn't handle it so well...

I do always hate to see my mother crying. Even when it has nothing to do with me I feel distantly responsible.

...she's still crying now...

Did. I don't want to feel like I'm pitying her too much...at the least I'm pretty sure she knows I love her and appreciate her.

I decided to take a look at the coconut in which I kept foreign coins as a kid. I found some odd things there:

  • An UK penny so old it reads "NEW PENNY"
  • A Dutch two and a half gulden coin dated 1840
  • 61 yen in loose change
  • Russian kopecks from three eras: a 1910 20 kopeck coin, some Soviet coins ranging from 10 kopecks to 5 rubles, and two post-Soviet coins: 1 and 5 rubles
  • French coins, two of them drilled through most probably for some payphone-cheating shenanigans
  • 6.50 Reichsmarks. Curiously, only the 50 pfennig coin bears a swastika.

My night didn't go like I expected.

About 7, I decided I wanted to go get a Little Caesar's pizza and a two-liter of soda, and then watch something long on Netflix. I bought the two-liter at Walmart, then decided I also wanted to get a box of wine. The moment I decided which kind to get, I randomly got a call from my parents, and spent half an hour wandering around Walmart chatting with a bottle of orange soda in my arms. Then I bought my stuff, went to LC for the pizza, and came back and watched QI followed by a few dozen HISHE videos.

Woke up spontaneously. I'm lucky. Shortly after that, one ''very' stupid person I know got the idea to call me about how to install Linux.

No patience. I told him it's 5 am and, besides, I'm no friend of his, so don't call me again, thanks.

Caught a cold. I've been feeling slightly sniffy today, but starting feeling really feverish at work. Came all the way back to rest. My body has a poor sense of timing.

Stuffing plushies in a peaked cap to make the crown convex. Otherwise it won't fit on my head.

It oddly works. More or less.

Dug up my drawing tablet again after a long time. Apparently Wacom pen grips use a kind of rubber that degrades into sticky goop over time. Lovely.

Edit: wow, Wacom's prices for new pens are pretty extortionate. It's cheaper to buy a whole new tablet.

I've come up with a new dish! Teriyaki Chicken Noodle Soup! It's a result of adding too much water to my Teriyaki Chicken Noodle Wok. Tastes delicious, so I'm happy. smile

After two and a half months, I just decided I was so done with my beard that I immediately went to shave it off. In the middle of the night. With a regular electric shaver. (Getting long hairs caught in them the wrong way can hurt)

Pro: a beard has never been part of my self-image, so I have my face back.

Con: my jawline has softened dramatically.

It was probably my most successful beard yet. And I probably could have lived with it for a while longer if I still had a trimmer (I ceded my trimmer to my brother when I moved out, because we'd been sharing. I didn't want to buy a new one because I have no income right now.)

I've been thinking of it as my "unemployment beard", since I started growing it after I left my last job in preparation for relocation. I expected I'd buy a trimmer and maintain or lose it after my first paycheck, but maybe having ditched it now I'll start getting those overdue post-interview callbacks.

[up] Well, if it wasn't part of your self-image, it's no big loss.

I normally don't talk about my comic here since it has a Writers' Block thread (that all of one person reads) but the latest page is huge.
