At the High Court in London, England, a judge has ruled that Fox, makers of Glee, have to cease and desist from calling the show by that title. This comes in a trial brought against Fox for breach of trademark, by a chain of comedy clubs called "The Glee Club" and means that Fox have to come up with another title stat if they want to continue showing the series in the UK.

More details online.

Man, what gypsy did the makers of this show insult to turn Glee from a national sensation to forgotten relic in a year's time?

Well, flat out stealing a song from Jonathan Coulter, and telling him in as many words that he should be happy about it, brought upon them the curse of Gla Dos.

Glee not being Glee? How could they.

What is it with Europe ruling against all the things I care about? Google, Nintendo, now Glee...

Next you see they're going to hit Tvtropes just because "trope" is a Latin term and they had it copyrighted a thousand years ago.

If it was a European Court decision, rather than a European court decision - there is a difference - Fox would have to worry.

They can appeal, if they so choose, but remember, the British establishment and court system f'ng hates Rupert Murdoch's empire now. Going to an appeal may rebound badly on them.

How many decades until every word is copyrighted and people have to start making up words to avoid legal controversy.

...do they only have to change the name in Britain? Because that would be fine. It's in its last season anyway.

Yeah, but this judgment will apply retroactively. Meaning every season of Glee that's in syndication will have to have the name changed in order to stay legal to broadcast in Britain, and there's a lot of Glee fans over here still, for some reason, who would want to keep watching it in re-runs.

This could cost Fox a lot of money.

Why even sue them now? The show has been around for, what? 6 years now? The show is ending anyway, why do ANYTHING about it now?

Even then, I think the idea of that is absurd; Glee is a horribly average name for something. Are we going to be suing Castle because the name is in various parts of countless landmarks and media?

Anyway, what's this about Chris getting fired?

It's happened to most of the cast by now. You'd think they'd get the hint and start using passwords like Purplemercuriansgavotinginfallingsand or something Basic password technique. Make a ridiculous mental image. Write it out. Easy to remember, absurdly hard to hack. Works anywhere that accepts very long passwords.

Man, what gypsy did the makers of this show insult to turn Glee from a national sensation to forgotten relic in a year's time?

Glee slowly drove all their fans away. First the casual fans bailed when it started to get overly preachy and the characters too inconsistent.

Not helping matters, spending years pretty much driving home that "Only Rachel and Kurt really matter" ended up ingraining it to the point where, well, the hardcore gleeks stopped watching the show when it started to focus on the new kids.

And then, the final insult, they pretty much went "Fuck the new kids" and started focusing almost exclusively on the Rachel and pals in New York. Only problem though is people who abandoned the show refused to take the bait and people who actually did like the new characters got pissed and finally started tuning out.

Moral of the story is, know the limits of Pandering to the Base.

I still watch it. And I'll watch it till the end.

After the inaugural club graduated though, something happened...the club needed new members, but people somehow couldn't get used to them. Might have been how they might have inferred that Marley was the "new Rachel" (if it wasn't Blaine), how Kitty was even bitchier than Quinn, how Jake was a manslut tongue...though I think Ryder was okay. And Unique may have been too much of a diva.

Of course I liked all of them as their own characters, but success relies on popular opinion.

As for the graduates, they all scattered. Rachel went to follow her dreams and Kurt followed, but soon everybody just kept coming and going between Mckinley and New York that it didn't really matter where anybody settled.

And as for the kids who stayed, they got a bit sketchy. Tina became Mckinley's biggest bitch (so sad), Blaine got all power mad and lonely and hypocritical (what with the sleeping with that guy after chewing out Kurt for his sexting), Brittany got to be a real diva after losing Santana, aaaaaaaand Joe and Sugar pretty much disappeared into aether.

Really, my biggest problem was the kids who stayed...they seemed to sort of fall apart when they became seniors. Must have been the stress.

I still watch it, but mostly because its a slow moving train wreck of everything you SHOULDN'T do when your TV Show becomes popular.

I think the issue with the New Characters is that they had no planning for where they fit in. What they should have done is introduce new characters in Season 2 and build their cast to take the loss of Rachel and Finn in later seasons.

Instead, the 2nd Season focused MORE on Rachel, Kurt, and Finn to the point that the show lost a lot of drama when they left. Which, when they left, the writer's filled the power vacuum with Finn, Rachel, Quinn, and Puck expies.

They simply didn't plan anything at all, made shit up as they went, and built a show with a countdown clock that couldn't survive that clock hitting zero.

Another issue is that everyone kept appearing in New York and Lima to the point that 'Do you guys even have a life outside of High School?' kept appearing... even more in the latest season.

The show is absolute shit; obvious enough when the damn title is now The Artifact. I'm just here to take notes on what NOT to do.

Yeeeeah, I just read the Glee character sheet and I'm glad I stopped watching a bit past Season 2.

I was thinking they did something useful with Kurt and Blaine and I could watch a few relevant episodes, but then the cheating, text-flirting, breakup, and egotistical marriage proposal just... no. RIB, what did you guys do with Blaine? It's like you're trying to deconstruct him, but you have no clue how to actually do it besides making him act stupid.

Blaine started as Kurt's dreamy love interest who could sing, dance, and look really good in a blazer.

Then they characterized him by making him insecure, a bit of a control freak, and kind of a hypocrite!

But then that's kind of what happens when you become a main character in Glee. It was hard when the kids were always in conflict with each other besides just other clubs.

If they had kept him as part of the Warblers and not brought him to New Directions, he would probably still be that same dreamy love interest who could sing, dance, and look really good in a blazer. But he wouldn't have as much depth. tongue

There's plenty of ways to make Blaine interesting without completely derailing his character. *points to sig* I made him an insecure and damaged Broken Ace. His friends are a choir group composed of a foul-mouthed stoner, someone who wins every single bet he makes, a dude who obsessively records everything, and about fifteen other guys who make fun of him for being stupid but immediately help him out when his Wide-Eyed Idealism runs into reality. And when he gets kidnapped.

No weird-ass OOC cheating involved—just a whole lot of breaking, and time to think at the fridge.

I suppose it doesn't help that RIB is trying to please a fandom that has eight million factions.

[up]Look no further than how they gracefully handled the Artie/Brittany/Santana triangle.

I kinda see Glee as ideal example of everything wrong with Pandering to the Base. You can give a Fandom Nod or Fanservice without compromising your writing.

[up]I don't think its that entirely because most of the fanbase complained about Rachel and Finn (wow... I really hate saying the last part of that sentence...) and they certainly remained the Spotlight Stealing Squad even though it was acknowledged constantly in universe more often than they actually stole the spotlight... which says something considering how often they stole it.

I think its an issue of not following through and trying to tell a consistent story. EVERYONE'S characters got totaled for the sake of random ass plots and story arcs that never went anywhere.

So I discovered that Curt Mega and Riker Lynch (Nick and Jeff, respectively) have a pretty epic bromance, and I didn't know that when I was still watching Glee because I don't go on Tumblr often.

I'm going to write SOME sort of script for those two.

Just wondering, is anyone still watching the actual show Glee, if only for guilty pleasure or masochism?

I do it for the guilty pleasure.

i learned a long time ago that the best way to enjoy something is to acknowledge the flaws and focus on what you actually like about it.

I still like the songs and the plotlines and the characters, and I disregard the character derailment and the cheesiness of some of the performances. ;p
