Most people in the Akamatsuverse seems to have quite high damage soak, as well. Not everyone is a Keitaro, of course, but most people can take quite strong hits and falls surprisingly well.

Dunno, it still looked pretty high. —'.`—

Oh well, let's put it on Akamatsu toughness, yes.

(my god, the anime's opening has something scary to it…)

These very same girls, most of them without any physical upgrades or special toughness, later can survive being thrown literally across an alien world after being caught into a massive blast, and none of them even breaks a leg or arm. I'd bet most real people would have suffered serious injuries, and there'd have been at least a few snapped necks on landing.

If you could avoid too many spoilers, please. ^^" I'm still not that far in the story.

Watched the anime's first episode just to be curious. It's not as bad as I had heard. It's slightly worse. I think it's the first time in an anime that I find the Japanese voice acting pretty bad − Yue probably takes the cake though… knowing that this is the same VA who would voice Erika a few years later pains me a little…

Which of the anime?

Nodoka's seiyuu is quite good, and Makie (Yui Horie), Sayo and Ayaka have very fitting voices, but the rest mostly rank as 'okay'. Even Kikuko Inoue clearly is just going through the motions as Shizuna (who doesn't even appear in the second anime), and she's normally very good. Yue's isn't a typically 'cute' voice, but that's the point. She's supposed to sound that dry and somewhat off-putting for anyone who isn't already her friend.

The worst voice would have to be Asakura's, which doesn't fit the character at all and sounds like the actress is forcing her voice through a grinder.

The first anime.

I know for Yue, but there should be a happy medium between "dry and off-putting" and "alive as a zombie on sleeping pills". ^^" Well, she does seem quite difficult to voice by nature. Maybe Kuwatani captures her better with time…

On the other hand, her French voice sounds downright creepy, to the point it's a bit funny. [lol]

In my head Yue should sound like Vita. Who is she actually voiced by?

The first anime stays a close adaptation early on and turns into a mess once Evangeline's arc in volume 3 is over.

The English dub also gets Misora's name backwards for whatever reason (and they keep the error for the second anime).

Yue? Natsuko Kuwatani (Kanako in Love Hina Again, Arf in Nanoha, Ryoko in Suzumiya Haruhi).

Vita? Asami Sanada (Matoi in Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Jun in Rozen Maiden, Dejiko in Di Gi Charat).

Edit: Wow, French Yue sounds like a chain smoking woman in her forties. NOT WANT. Ironically, French Haruna actually sounds very sweet and likable, but is a horrible match for the character.

Video in the link is country-locked, so I'll take your word for it on Yue and Haruna's voices.

French Asuna didn't convince me at first, but then she got in a shouting match with Ayaka and then she really nailed it.

[up][up] Wut? It's weird, I don't think it's put on by the publisher or anything. —'.`— Maybe by turning your youtube language into French…

Well, if you want an idea, imagine Yue voiced by Mitsuki Saiga and Haruna with a Hinata-ish voice. Yeah.

[up] Indeed. Actually, I have a feeling the French dub would almost be half-decent, had the translator ever heard of synchronisation. I don't know why the French translators for anime absolutely want to make the sentences way longer than they need to be, forcing the voice actors to have a Motor Mouth for the most trivial lines…

And about the Japanese dub, it's a pity that even though Konoka's voice (and dat kansai-ben!) matches her perfectly, I have this feeling her VA isn't trying at all…

Ai Nonaka's best role would have to be Kafuka in Zetsubou Sensei, where she can apply her voice's sweetness to a really cool creepy effect.

I wasn't able to see the video either, but I wasn't surprised because I'm South African. I'm used to that kind of thing.

Volume 15 and 16! Boy, this is getting intense. X)

  • Sayo is cute and all, but since her chapter, she seems to be little more than a piece of furniture… —'.`— Not that she can do much as a ghost that only Kazumi can see, but…
  • Ah, Asuna actually confessed to Takahata… I didn't expect that. It was a cute scene, though the conclusion was foregone.
  • All these jumps back and forth in time are getting confusing… when someone jumps into the future/past, do they disapear from the face of the earth in that timeline, or does the rest of the world disapear? I think this is one of the questions raised by Kirie's power in UQ…
  • And for that matter, what became of the other selves that had been created during the festival?
  • So Chao's plan is to basically erase the Weirdness Censor in people's mind, and Negi's plan is to take advantage of that censor (or said another way, of people's stupidity in the Negiverse)… that's interesting. surprised That's a surprisingly clever plan coming from Negi, actually…
  • Eva in that bath scene was so hot it's not even funny. And then she kisses Negi (or "Nagi"?), just cause… I have to say, her train of thought is sometimes hard to follow. —'.`—
  • So there are even mini-wine bottles for Chachazero… who cannot drink alcohol, technically… well, there are also hermine-sized cigarettes, so…
  • Those stripping lasers are pretty damn acurate to spare only the bottom underwears.
  • It would be hilarious if Chisame's artefact had absolutely nothing to do with computers (like, something related to cosplay), but then they would be screwed…

This arc is getting better and better… although it's more and more confusing too… I like Chao a lot as an antagonist. =]

Just went back re-read some of Nagi's appearances. I forgit that he's the only one who has been shown able to skip half the incantation of a top tier spell like Thousand bolts.

[up][up]The time travel mechanic is simpler than you're making it; it's basically the Time Turner from Harry Potter, but with multiple loops (aka actually used tongue). Singular timeline with all the events of each loop accounted for, and multiple selves based on each loop. The closest thing to a paradox is the Infinite Chamo Swap, and that's mostly just for a quick gag.

I wouldn't try to connect it to Kirie's save point system from UQ. This is basically a futuristic application of Magitech, while Kirie's power seems to be a very different beast entirely.

Sayo is more of an accessory for Asakura than a piece of furniture. That's better, right?

We see Chao travel back in time. She vanishes from the sight of the teachers when she does. The world goes on without her because there's more than one timeline.

Negima time travel is inconsistent. Sometimes it creates new timelines while other time multiple time traveling version of a character exist simultaneously.

It depends on how much courage the user has. If they have none or too much the magic isn't as good and they get booted into an alternate timeline.

So long story short, we only know that it… works. Somehow. tongue

Yes, better. Especially since I just realized I was calling a girl named Sayo "furniture", and that made me feel very bad.

I always considered Negima's time travel antics as a matter of degrees. The Mahorafest loops are kept rather contained and closed, so they don't break the timeline. Major paradox-inducing events, such as whether or not Chao succeeds in breaking The Masquerade or whether or not Asuna is still around with Negi, are what you need for a new timeline to form.

[up]That's basically what I thought as well. Though more related to amount of time travelled back.

Funnily enough, in my fanfic, Chisame's first artefact was related to cosplay.

Volume 17-18! Whew, I'm already halfway through the series…

  • Okay, Chisame's artefact is related to computers and cosplay. Why chose between the two after all. tongue
  • Ayaka and Makie… hum… local bricks, was it?
  • Holly crap that was an awesome fight. TTOTT
  • Kaede vs. Mana as well; brief but intense.
  • Ah, I figured the question of who the other person Chao descends from would be brought up. Not in such a trollish way though. [lol] (especially since I already know that this question will never have an answer in the series proper…)
  • Err… does that mean we might actually see Chao again in UQ?
  • Other than that, the dialogues about whether it's right or wrong to stop Chao and stuff are… in French I would say "poussif", but in English I don't really find a word… not very spontaneous? Well, the point is made and invites a bit of reflexion, so that's fine.

  • … so is Kokone a robot or something? She has a special font and all…
  • Those two chapters with Misora doing the admissions might be the most hilarious in the series so far. The good thing with Ayaka's way of loving Negi, is that she doesn't even need to bother with a confession.
  • So Setsuna wonders if it would be fine to kiss Konoka… uhuh…
  • So Alb… Colonel Sanders and Nagi have made a pactio… uhuh…
  • Kitty… [lol]
  • I'm still puzzled to see Yue among the baka-rangers… she doesn't look like the Book Dumb type contrary to the other four…
  • … and I realize than even Negi calls them the baka-rangers now. evil grin
  • English classes are cool and all, but shouldn't everyone in this series take geography classes first? For example, to learn that Wales is not a region of England?

I'm quite impatient to see more of Anya. I don't know why but I like her…

Yue's the Brilliant, but Lazy type of underachiever. She can't be arsed to study what they're actually being tested on. Probably too busy reading Kant or something.
