I'm not a big fan of the show, but the problem I have with Lisa is that sometimes she takes her Insufferable Genius status too far, and sometimes she whines too much. And just like Brian, she's the Creator's Pet, and fans usually hate the Creator's Pet.

Like in the "Lady Gaga" episode I couldn't stand her because Lady Gaga was trying to make Lisa feel better, but she kept complaining.

[up]No, no, Lisa was the only one with her head on straight in that episode. Every time there was a scene without Lady Gaga, I half-expected everyone to look sad and say, "Where's Lady Gaga?"

One problem with Bart and Homer is, they do get off with a slap on the wrist if that, on a lot of occasions. Then comes an episode like 'Clear Day', and it's like the writers now want to catch up on all the stuff the characters ever got away with in this one ep. Two problems right away : Bart will see this retroactive comeuppance on enough occasions that we'll recall it later ; Homer almost never does that I can recall, and when he does, its random like the reality/prank show execution and not really due to his own actions, and where that happens, he is incapable of learning past that moment.

Plus, in 'Clear Day', you have the basic plot-device of Judge Harm. Judge Harm = Insane Verdict/Punishment, like Bart living on his own with 50% of the family's income in another ep. If the writers had wanted to task Bart well, they would have put him through some kind of tedious behavior class with comical attempts at life lessons. That's what the other judge would have done. The writers use Judge Harm when they want insane/vicious. Lisa could have argued that Bart gets away with so much, she needs to take whatever chance she has to teach him a lesson, however harsh, but instead she just becomes Homer with a brain when things go her way. Part of our problem with Lisa is Bart and Homer ; Homer will never see a lesson that not only doesn't stick, but that he twists back around to even greater stupidity. The writers falsely balance Bart's behavior towards Lisa and others by going blindingly vicious : The Israeli groin 'joke', 'Clear Day', and his embodiment/avatar of all bad educators kindergarten teacher. Plus, for a show that mercilessly lampshades its characters' plot amnesia, it asks us to see stories like 'Clear Day' in a retroactive comeuppance light, but all that is presented is Lisa behaving in such a way that seems to re-earn back every future pranking and dismissive statement. So Lisa receives unjust resentment because the writers don't know how to have her handle her moments of justice any better than her family.

Exactly. Lisa was the only person in that episode who didn't have her lips firmly implanted on Lady Gaga's butt.

Still don't like her. It's annoying how we have to deal with Aesops thrown in our face about how she's right in a lot of episodes. Man I hate Creator's Pet characters.

Lady Gaga was just not at her best in that episode. Next time she'll show all her potential with her loud anger management issues over people using her time machine.

She is preachy and tries to force what he thinks into others, while being annoying, since most episodes all related to her are about life and she being tormented by other girls those episodes are boring and Matt wants to drag on, I dont think it is Matt, I think the writing staff were the dumb ones, since Futurama isnt about that and Matt Groening uses it, it is the writing team probably, but there are 2 real annoying episodes: The Lady Gaga one, yeah, she was the only one who wasnt getting her lips in lady gagas butt like another guy said, but what would you expect from a mediocre town that didnt get anyone important until someone famous came? yeah, and while she tried to help Lisa, she just dragged on and on at her complex mind, guess she isnt so smart to say stupid things every minute and being a jerkass bitch And the restraining order one... Id rather drown on blood, it was ANNOYING Bart might have been bad, but she was worse, and Marge was just derping around, she was poking his head needlessly while he was outside, she really didnt do anything good that episode, they should as well have put her on prison.

TL;DR she is preachy, high moral "politically correct" little crap, sorry if I used some vulgar language, but I cannot express how furious I am how she is probably the worst thing in the show, and Flanders? They said "Religion has mroe influence on politics" that is a lie, dont try to think it is real, politics arent that important in the show, the Simpsons are supossed to do wacky things, not what Mike thinks he can say, overall, I hate Scully, Lisa, and Flanders (and to a lesser extent Marge)

In another matter, did you notice Brian from Family Guy is hated but when he dies everybody misses him?

Lisa is actually as hated as Brian, alongside the more recent Simpsons episodes.

[up][up]I think it's the problem she's often annoying in a Rightly Self-Righteous kind of way, a character the others hate due to her attitude problem and the fact she usually ends up right despite it. A clear case is the Eighth Commandment episode, where she develops a highly pious attitude about stealing (relentlessly condescending and guilt tripping Homer for getting free cable and making Marge humiliate herself for testing two grapes). The nearest Homer can get out of it is telling a smug looking Lisa she's not very fond of her for it after agreeing to take out the cable.

I'll admit this actually faded as seasons passed and she at least started to get Not So Above It All moments for being pompous, but I can see why people get annoyed by her. No matter how much they are in the right, self righteousness is an incredibly insufferable character trait when it is enabled.

[up]That and in a show tends to use Slapstick to make Homer, and to a lesser degree Bart, a Butt-Monkey, Lisa herself is rarely a victim of it. Apparently one of the writers suggested writing a gag where Homer actually strangles Lisa and the writers looked aghast that they even suggested such a thing.

Not that I'm rooting for that type of thing to happen, but that is signs of Creator's Pet when the same writers have no problem constantly writing Bart into the same type of situation.

In fairness, Homer strangling Lisa would be pretty terrible. But then again, I guess Homer strangling Bart is as well... eh, I don't know. Maybe it's just a [1].

I heard they made Amy in Futurama just to experiment with Slapstick Knows no Gender. The result is putting her in gratuitous and ridiculously cliche situations like tripping over, like it was just pointing out 'hey look, a girl hurting herself comically, how about that?'. There's probably far more witty ways they put Lisa in slapstick in the later seasons.

I did notice that Lisa was pretty much never on the receiving end in the shorts, always outsmarting Bart in his pranks and avoiding getting caught or facing their parents' wrath despite acting just as bad. Whether this completely had to do with the uneasiness of her being a girl I'm not sure, though if it is the case I can see why they altered her personality, which at least allowed potential for different flaws and deconstructions ('smart Lisa' is arguably much more of a Butt-Monkey now than 'bratty Lisa' was in early points).

[up]Lisa is always the center of the universe when Seasons 10-12 happened, which might as well be Mike Sc(umbag)ully's fault, those seasons were and are a pain in the ass, they rather go for favour in politics than real fun, and they would likely want to match Family Guy flaws, marketing is dirty.

It's the Jean-era episodes that are known for terrible political episodes, the Scully era is known for wackiness and Jerkass Homer.

Seriously? Resorting to insulting the man himself because you don't care for his tenure as showrunner?
