This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

I'm thinking of a rap song that was popular in the United States (and possibly elsewhere) during the early 00's.

There's a main melody in the backing instrumentals that goes like this:

Anyone know the name of this song? This has bugged me for YEARS.

Is it this?

Can't believe I know that song. Reminds me of back then when our school bus turned up local hip hop / R&B...

Yes, that's it! It was like all over the high school party scene back then. Such an ear worm. Not that I ever made out what the lyrics actually contained.

So, assuming there's only one song that sounds like this...yeah, that's it.

I was reading YMMY Tail Spin and I don't know what this part means.

Hilariousin Hindsight: Whenever Rebecca (voiced by Sally Struthers) goes into a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme, it's not hard to imagine her saying, "Do you want to make money? Sure, we all do!"

What dos it mean?

If i had to infer from context, that's something Sally Struthers has frequently said, but I can't say for sure.

She's the paid spokeperson for a chain of diploma mills called "International Correspondence Schools" in television ads for years. That was one of the most-used lines in the ads.

What do I do if an order from Amazon doesn't arrive after the estimated date?

whatever

There's a reason it's an estimate. It's not actually a guarantee. Now, if it's a month after the estimated date, I would probably call/email to find out what's going on, but if it's only a few days, then there's nothing you can do, as they haven't done anything wrong.

EDIT: Or, wait, you mean it hasn't arrived at all, not that it arrived later than estimated? First, consider how long past the estimated arrival it; as I said above, it's an estimate, not a guarantee. A little "overdue" probably isn't something to worry about. Second, they generally send a tracking number in the email that tells you your order has shipped; I would go look up what's going on with the package. If something seems very wrong about that, I might contact Amazon to find out if they have an explanation.

Back when people were first devloping the atom bomb there was some concern that an explosion could ignite the atmosphere. Like, all of it. Obviously that turned out to not be the case but it is even pssible to ignite our atmosphere under any conditions?

Probably, but I'd imagine it'd take a whole hell of a lot of energy. The gases are flammable, but there's a lot of them.

Air is 78% Nitrogen, 20% Oxygen, 1% Argon, and trace amounts of other gases.

Nitrogen extinguishes flames on its own. Oxygen facilitates flame, but is not itself flammable. Argon is a Noble gas and inert.

Just about anything can extinguish flame if it displaces either oxygen or whatever is burning. Plain and simple, if something is to burn, both fuel and oxygen are needed. To put out a fire, you merely need to remove one of those two things.

I just posed that question to my mother, and her reaction was disgust followed by "I wouldn't."

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I wouldn't either. The only "worms" I can think of showing up in jam would be maggots, and that means ...eeeewwwwwwwwwww, no.

If you take a picture of it (the product and the worms) and send it to the retailer, they should give you free stuff. Even better if you actually the the product and the worms to them, but a picture should be enough.

Also, don't eat it.

I've already eaten 70% of the jar's contents in the last few days, so I'm not entirely sure about whether stopping at this point will make any difference. But I guess I can just throw it away. (It's my aunt's home-made jam, and I don't think she'll provide me with free stuff if I bring her some photos, hahh.)

GlennMagusHarvey Since: Jan, 2001

I feel bad for your aunt, but there are serious health risks associated with eating insect-infested foods.

That which you've already eaten is a sunk cost that can't be undone anyway, so you shouldn't be worrying about that regarding the rest of the jar.

The only time you might want to consider still eating it is if the infestation is clearly contained in a certain part of the food, which can be removed. But I wouldn't trust this.

Indeterminate, I think, since I believe Fast Eddie runs those prunes by hand and I presume sets the parameters too.

We used to have a situation where it was absolutely necessary that some old, inactive threads be cut.

Currently, we're not approaching such a situation, AFAIK. I think Eddie explained it in some thread; there was a change of hardware or something that removed some of the restrictions on how much stuff we can have.
