Awkwardly explaining superpowers to one's enemies or even to no one in particular is an unpleasant staple of the genre.

Mainstream superhero comics have entire fight scenes full of this.

• Cyclops: Have some of my optic blast!
• Magneto: A valiant effort, were I not the master of magnetism! This metal wall can easily block your blast and crush you all at once!
• Colossus: You forget, I am not only invulnerable, I am also very strong! Strong enough to hold up your wall!
• Magneto: But my magnetic powers can manipulate your body while it's encased in metal!

"Constantly reminding everyone what my powers do" is basically rule number one of being a superhero, and always sounds awkward and forced.

The supervillain Sandman lampshaded this once during a team-up with Spider-Man.

"What's wrong? Is your spider-sense tingling? You know, I always thought that if a guy had a cool secret weapon like that, he should probably keep it to himself."

It's probably due to week to week nature of the comics. Gotta get any random newbie that picked it up to speed.

This is why I prefer comics to have a cast page, like in Asterix.

I guess heroes and villains just want some validation

And again, I honestly don't see mainstream comics writing like that anymore unless they're taking the piss.

Like, you really see the likes of Bendis or Johns sincerely writing "I'll bust out of this with my spider-strength!"? If anything, it's more along the lines of "Dude, seriously? Spider-strength. Come on, man."

Preferably after having busted out. Unspoken Plan Guarantee and all that.

Okay, I wasn't thinking of caption or thought boxes, but yeah, I'll admit I've seen closer examples there. However, even then the tone is very different: caption boxes tend to be very neutral, almost like reading a database entry, and thought boxes tend to fit the tone and style of a monologue.

I'm betting 100 Internet cookies that Marilyn will successfully resist the mind-altering drug through The Power of Love (she has a girlfriend that she dearly loves, Sara-Nicole didn't when she got drugged up; that's the major difference between the two), though not necessarily without her focus being compromised for the time being.

This was the only strip in which she was in costume since she got there.

She already had an antidote prepared for mind controlling drugs ahead of time and set her armor to automatically apply it, just in case someone tried to drug delicious fruit pies with mind control drugs at a town fair.

Mecha did indeed snarf down a pie or two, but how long do the effects last?

And who's to say that she doesn't have a rare genetic quirk that alters her biochemistry just a tiny bit, but enough that the drug's effects are messed up/negated?

If there is no twist, its going to kind of be a repeat of Captain Alberta's hate toxins.

Mecha Maid created a way to block drugs and is faking.

Wow, that Double Entendre was hilarious and not even remotely subtle. I kind of have to applaud it in its audacity.

Darn it Spinny, when Sara-Nicole said that MM would obey anything she said, you should have gagged her or something ASAP. (After all, the only order she gave so far was for MM to come to the location. Though she did arrive oddly hostile...)

... Wait, what if what Sara-Nicole did in the second panel is a Chekhov's Gun moment? What if Spinny decides to "burn out" the drug from Mecha-Maid by somehow causing some sort of emotional overload related to her attraction to Spinny?

Psychotropic drugs don't work that way.

However, Sara-Nicole's reaction in panel 2 may indicate that the drug's usefulness in curbing homosexuality may, in fact, be a placebo effect. The drug does clearly work for mind control, but it might not be the cure for The Gay that Sara-Nicole thinks it is.
