"literally everything is made fun of in this series. "

key point is that, he usully make fun or parody more silly aspect like Mokuba being kidnap once in a season or wing dragon of ra having whatever the fuck power he wanted(really, what are its canon habilities?, someone knows?) but he some of the jokes are just "haha this season is bad" which get old fast ro miss oportunities(Like Raphael being the only sane men who dosent play by abgriged rules which WAS funny)

" Kaiba is really lucky that he only got persistent trauma and then a temporary coma, when you consider some of the alternatives."

Actually, he is really lucky Yugi stop him in Pegasus castle because Atem order Celtic guardian to atack him which would surely kill him, so yeah Atem still have something of a bad side

Just compare the way he treated Marik's backstory to the way he treated Raphael's backstory.

Sure, he made fun of both of them, but in the former case, the story is still there, Marik hated his life as a tombkeeper, was abused by his father, developed an insane split personality who killed said father and is kept in check by Odion, and vowed revenge against the Pharaoh, who he saw as the one responsible for his shitty life.

In the latter case, he cut away the part that actually made Raphael resent humanity, and then joked about it as if that was the way it was on the show. In other words, he created a strawman version of his flashback. It just comes off as spiteful.

[up]The part that get m weird is how Yugi said he is edgelord version of Mako tsunami and them saying he is a btter version that Raphael will ever be, the whole thing was "wait....what?"

Also, I will like to Raphael adressing how awfull abrigedpharoh actually is, so far here actually have a better reason to said the pharoh is evil consider how much a jerk he is, hell I crack a smile when the whole "THE TAIDAL WAVE RETURN WITH VENGEANCE!"

Pharoh: oh....maybe im a little evil

...Okay, I actually saw that episode - albeit the 4Kids dub - and I can't for the life of me remember what made him hate civilization so much.

[up]I think a big part of it was his family forgetting he existed, at least in the 4Kids version. I have no idea what the excuse was in the Japanese version.

In the Japanese version, his other relatives screwed him out of the inheritance, and didn't care about him aside from as a way the share the fame the "survivor boy" story got. Beyond that, there were also Dartz's manipulations, using Raphael's questioning of his own fate to lure him.

[up][up][up] His excuse was that when he finally got back to civilization, his family had moved on and didn't care about him anymore.

I thought evil Yami in this episode was very well done. I particularly liked "A wave is all it takes to break you", as Little Kuriboh seemed to be channeling TFS Freeza for his delivery of that line. It made me want to see him write a straight-up villain. We have plenty of comic relief and/or pitiable villains in this show who really aren't as evil as they think they are, but we don't have anyone really serious or menacing, though Noah came close at times. What villains who haven't appeared yet are there left? The only one I can think of is Zigfried Von Schroeder. I guess there's also Bob, since he was only in the first Evil Council episode, where he was The Unintelligible. YGOTAS has used Characterization Marches On before, and it will most likely need to be done again for Bob if he's to be a credible villain in a non-filler arc, so maybe he could go serious?

Speaking of the Evil Council, we recently got the first part of a five-part arc to conclude that series.

Well, in the final arc, Dark Bakura takes the stage again as the final villain of the series, revealing his true identity as Zorc.

Why did Yugi, uh, Yami, why did he use the the Seal of Orikalkos? In either the Japanese or English dub? He has no reason to do so.

The only reason I can think of is that he thought Professor Hawkins was in danger, and that maybe his life might be forfeit if he lost? (They had actually already let Hawkins go, but Yami didn't know that at the time).

I'm not sure if that's a good enough explanation, though. Certainly, it's not one they gave in the dub - Yami seemed to only be concerned that they would lose the duel.

IIRC, it was hinted that the seal was influencing him.

*sigh* For the millionth time, Rafael cut the bridge before the duel, so presumably if Yugi lost, Rafael would've flown off alone on the helicopter and left Yugi stranded on a big, inexplicable circular platform in the middle of Death Valley. Yes, I know they didn't make it clear enough, but I really don't know why else they'd have bothered animating a scene of Rafael cutting the bridge if that wasn't what they were trying to imply.

Makes about as much sense as Mai joining the evil cult because she wasn't as popular as she used to be before Battle City.

I guess.

It's still kind of dumb, though, if that is indeed what they were going for, then the fault's on the show for not communicating it properly.

Or just duel him again. And if Yugi can't win when Raphael doesn't use the seal, what chances does he have when Raphael does use it?

...So what, we're working under the assumption that Rafael would have helped Yugi leave if he lost?

This is Yu-Gi-Oh!. People take their card games very seriously in this universe. Rafael seems like an "honorable duelist" type. Heck, even Marik game Yugi legitimate ways to survive the death traps in Battle City.

Makes about as much sense as Mai joining the evil cult because she wasn't as popular as she used to be before Battle City.

There might have also been something about being traumatized by being sent to an alternate dimension full of eternal darkness and psychological torture by a cackling evil maniac. That might have been a factor.

It's still kind of dumb, though, if that is indeed what they were going for, then the fault's on the show for not communicating it properly.

It's nowhere near the dumbest or most poorly explained thing the franchise has ever done.

It just seems like everybody picks on this one duel in particular. I guess it's because it was more pivotal to the season's plot, but there are plenty of other situations in Yugioh that I find WAAAAAAY more objectionable. Like the time the Rare Hunters stole Joey's Red-Eyes, but not before beating him in a non-Shadow Game duel for no reason whatsoever. Or just... the entire Team Unicorn duel in 5D's.

I've got Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash, Spyro, and Paper Mario fanfics.
