But shouldn't someone have pointed out how her suit is all ragged now?
I'm not liking the first few chapters of Volume 7. Still too much alliterative Demonwolf freakbabble, and the narrative is on steroids. I'm more interested in what's going on with the ninjas then how many ways Demonwolf can point out that Thugboy and Ninjette are both horny for each other.
Although, I admit that I'm impressed by Adam Warren's dedication to his thesaurus, and I wonder if there will come a point where Demonwolf won't have much to say.
Z'ounds!
That, that got me chuckling.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Maybe this situation with Ninjette is lowering her guard which her depression is causing the meltdown of her suit again?
So Volume 8 just came out. Anyone read it?
I'll tell you when i've worked through the sadness.
"You can reply to this Message!"Well at least Volume 9 should be lighter, right? RIGHT?!?
I missed a volume release?! Crap!
After I order I'm gonna need to go to Costco to pick up bulk Kleenex for my tears aren't I.
i. hear. a. sound.Let me say flat out: I do not believe that was Mindfuck in hell, by the simple fact that Infernal Services Provider would have known her voice.
That ambiguity that was heartbreaking enough on its own, and that ending was heart-rending. Dear god.
Having not read the latest volumes yet, I'm surprised this book series is going through a lot of tragedy. Damn... I want to find that out myself.
Bump. I was popping into this thread because I just finished up to volume 8, and was hoping 9 was out somewhere I didn't know where to look. Guess not. Haven't read the specials yet, though.
Any word on when 9's out?
August 19, apparently. I was unaware of that, myself. Neat!
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. So how heartwrenching will this volume be? the last volumes have been getting worse and worse at being lighthearted but he keeps promising the next will be lighter. does warren mean the book is physically lighter?
The solicit for the new volume seems like it'll probably be lighter. But, well, this series does have a pretty strong case of Cerebus Syndrome.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. It also seem's to have a wedding in it. a superhero wedding. in the empowered universe. there is no way that will end well.
I don't trust it. Even if 95% of 9 is lighthearted, that 5% is going to rip out my heart and stomp on it with stiletto heels.
i. hear. a. sound.Volume 9 is out. It's very good. Less angsty than normal, and Emp actually manages to solve the majority of the plot herself this time (even if she got lucky with dwarf! and the camera). I'm just afraid it's going to turn out to be a Breather Episode and next one will be even worse. Especially since Ninjette is supposed to have a larger role, which might mean her clan coming after her.
Everything that happened with Fleshmaster and Manny was creepy as fuck, though. All that child brain cancer tissue. Brrrrr.
i. hear. a. sound.Body horror, death and the main character having a complete emotional breakdown. And this is a lighter volume.
If Cerebus Syndrome didn't already have a name, it could be called Empowered Syndrome.
Great book, though. Always fun seeing Empowered use her wits to deal woth bad guys.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.well this was a great volume. and I guess it was technically lighter than the last few.
It waited until the third act before it went incredibly dark. By the standards of Empowered, it was light. Which says a lot about how dark Empowered has become in general.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Yes. Now we need to see who is next on the people who love Elissa and die curse. Will it be jette? Thugboy? Her mother?
Adam Warren's style has always been mixing terribly dark writing with lighthearted and fun looking artwork. His Dirty Pair stuff was more cynical and cruel than the original anime, his Teen Titans Elseworlds book was fairly dark as well, his Bubblegum Crisis graphic novel was another downer where you get the feeling the only characters he didn't kill were those protected by franchise Plot Armor, and his Gen 13 run ended up with him killing the whole team.
I sometimes wonder about the man's issues, because I can't remember a single thing he did that was actually consistently light spirited.
Some . If Spooky & Mindfuck are reunited eventually, is it possible that their love for one another can make even Hell bearable?
Something that's always bugged me about this comic book.
1. The Buffy Speak after the Caged Demonwolf appears.
2. Why is it that in later issues, Emp's suit is always ripped up? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for the tattered, sexy look, but earlier in the comic her suit was usually whole until she took damage. It was established that the moment the suit is damaged/ripped, she loses all of her powers - so, that's inconsistent. I considered Early-Installment Weirdness or Art Evolution, or that Emp is gaining confidence. But still, showing this through a constantly-tattered suit that none of the characters comment on is weird to me.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!
Maybe Emp is still going through some issues. The whole weakness of the suit is based on her self-esteem anyway.
