I wouldn't say that any of the main characters count as a Manic Pixie Dream Girl; the MPDG is defined by the fact that they have no goals of their own, they exist solely to liven up the dull lives of the male lead. Persona main character certainly have goals of their own; they're more like a Magnetic Hero pulling others along in their wake than they are a MPGD pushing people out of their comfort zone (with a touch of All-Loving Hero given that they'll make friends with anyone who needs a friend, even people who are unrepentant assholes or outright evil — or at least seem to be at first glance).
Some of the minor social links probably see them as pretty MPDG-y in the "randomly comes into their life, pushes them out of their comfort zone, makes them reevaluate their priorities" sense, but on the whole I don't think they'd count.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.Haven beaten Persona 5, I'm playing Persona 3 and gen moving on to restarting Persona 4 afterwards. I am so spoiled on Fast Travel.
Addition: And controlling my party. And quickly changing party member's equipment.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the most useful tactic in P3, by far, was "Knock Down"... so naturally they leave that one out in P4 and P5. If they had Knock Down, I might actually use the AI during random dungeon crawling just to speed things up, but without that as an option there's no point in doing anything but full control.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I dunno, P5 is pretty clever about knockdown most of the time. They even know to Baton Pass to someone who can continue knocking people down (and will give it to Joker if he has a persona that can do it that isn't currently equipped).
They just aren't very clever about ammo conservation, and I keep seeing Morgana use Lucky Punch on a downed enemy instead of someone still standing who has no weaknesses.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. Then set him to direct control?
All of mine so far are.
Well, yeah, I should. I just wanted to see how clever the AI is if you use it.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I tried that for a while when I went from P3 to P4; didn't last very long. With P5 I didn't bother to begin with.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I'll never go back to direct commands.
i think know i'd die a lot if i don't have direct commands on. honestly i find it more annoying to not control my party members and it's really dumb i won't be able to do it in 3 fes
that's why im kinda hesitant to go back and play 3 FES once i finish up 5
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI've never liked having the other party members act freely. I don't trust the AI to make proper decisions on their own in RP Gs, and I would feel much more comfortable if I could dictate the outcome of the battles myself.
It's why I think P 3 P is the best version of Persona 3 by far, even with the lack of a 3D overworld.
Things I can trust the AI in P5 to do:
- Revive party members
- Hit weaknesses and baton pass to other people with weaknesses
- Use multi-target skills when there's multiple targets
- Hit as hard as they can
- Use a cure skill to get rid of an ailment
- Baton Passing to Joker if he has the right skill on a different persona
Things I can't trust the AI in P5 on:
- Shock (Even Makoto, who has Nuclear Spells, will opt to use normal attacks)
- unda/aja spells
- Using items to cure ailments
- Conserving gun ammo (If they bring it out, they'll use it till empty or they run out of targets)
- Conserving SP (Characters will use multi-target spells. Even when someone else is going to do far better)
- Using Guard for a boss mechanic (Don't know if they do it or not. Don't want to risk it)
It's altogether a good time saver, it's just a few things that annoy me here.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. Can somebody please check out the Base-Breaking Character entries on YMMV.Persona 5? Because I have serious doubts that this game has that many contentious characters.

That trope has an issue with people inserting their own personal opinion, and passing it off as a majority opinion.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...No kidding.
I think Ryuji is the only one that has any kind of dislike from people who have actually played the game.
Figured as much so I removed the entire entry.
I just really love showing Elizabeth the real world. It's adorable how wrong she is about escalators and tossing coins into a fountain.
I can't hate Ryuji for the simple fact that he's the best physical attacker lol. He puts in so much work.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.i can't hate ryuji because he's amazing. my whole friendgroup loves him.
anyway, there aren't any contentious characters in 5- the worst of it is playful waifu wars.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeEven my least favorite characters I still like.
This song needs more love. Finally got my first game over in Persona 3. Was fighting the Knight Shadow on floor 59 and everyone just simply decided to Wait. Sure, they would occasionally use Dia, but other than that I was the only one doing anything. Damn Shadow was even close to being defeated before I exhausted my Plume of Dusks.
Somehow I missed the Broken Base section. Are any of those legit or just more over-exaggerating forum squabbles?
I have legitimately seen debates over the traitor being obvious, whether the adult female romantic links should've been there or not, the quality or lack thereof of LGBT representation, and the localization in several places. The others might be a reach.
Same here, Just get rid of the other stuff.
Izanagi Picaro and Magatsu Izanag Picaro are now at level 99 each. Izanagi Picaro for boss killing, Magatsu Izanagi Picaro for Palace sweeping. Between leveling those 2 and maxing out the Compendium, I'm down to 250,000+ yen.
