On a more fantastic end of science fiction, the Starbridge Chronicles by Paul Park (Soldiers Of Paradise, Sugar Rain, and The Cult Of Loving Kindness) are the French Revolution as well.

A lot of writers seem to think that complex, elaborate backstories are necessary to make us feel for a character, but sometimes, it's as simple as this:

Doga gets magic. Unei gets dreams. Xande gets mortality. I'd be pissed at the last one too.

I'd be pissed at either of the latter two if someone had the first one.

One slice of pizza is generally 200-300 calories, so if you ate a whole bunch you could have easily consumed well over 1,000 calories.

Man, dinosaurs really have come a long way. Or, really, information concerning dinosaurs. A long way. It's unfortunate that there are millions of species that probably didn't fossilise because, well, it's harder for smaller bones to be preserved. Fuckin' megafauna.

Oh, but I love me some megafauna. Especially mammalian megafauna, but, well, they're not dinosaurs. Why can't I ever remember the time period that all of those megafauna? Glyptodont! Miocene? Sure.

Metaphors are such dangerous things. Our thinking gets so easily confused by them and led along false routes. And yet, without them, so much of thought would be near-impossible.

I was obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid.

I don't know much now though. I use to be able to name a bunch but now I refer to the Spinosaurus as "the one with a big ridged potato chip thing on its back."
