Yeah, their atrocious player is why I try to support Anime Lab here in Australia whenever I can.

Although I kinda feel like its on its way to dying. A few years ago they were getting 10+ simulcast's. But the last few seasons they've only had 2-3 per season.

...I haven't had problems with Crunchyroll's player besides the rewind 10 seconds feature occasionally not working.

It's a tongue-in-cheek description of the journey from filthy casual to snobby anime elitist, including such memorable stops as the void after that one series, meeting your waifu/husbando, merchandise addiction, sneering at the plebs and finally, acceptance of one's own shit taste. Pretty funny if you like Gigguk's humor, skippable otherwise.

Gigguk said a while ago that he quit his physical job to try and make videos full-time and after about 6 months he'll see if he could live off of only that or not. ...... by now it's clearly over 6 months, and it's safe to say that despite Youtube's incompetence in treating their users properly, he hasn't stopped since.

Watching that video reminded me of a post I made in the random thoughts thread that I just deleted because I realized it'd be a better fit here. It went like this:

I've begun to realize that I may be a "casual" anime fan.

  • I only watch maybe one or two shows a season
  • I only watch subs if I don't feel like waiting for a dub
  • I dislike most anime theme songs
  • Because of the reasons above, I just cannot commune with the anime fandom at large

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.

[up][up][up]As someone who has basically achieved Acceptance last year, I'm fine.smile

[up]Your casual approach to anime just shows how far you've come.

[down]Same here. I need a lot of word-of-mouth that a show is truly excellent before I give it a shot.

Speaking of which, recommend Magus' Bride. It does Sense of Wonder very well.

I only watch a new show once in a blue moon these days, and only those which get a noticeable enough popularity/cult following to catch my attention. I was never one to check out every show in every season, even when I watched a lot more than I do now it was like at most three shows per season for me, if that.

The most recent show I've seen was Made in Abyss a few days ago, and then before that it was Re:Zero like a year ago.

Watched it. Man he really gets a lot of stuff accurate! :O Most of that can describe my experiences in anime, just insert random anime title here!

I suppose I'm either near the last stage, or maybe I even circled back already?? I dunno. I DO know that Fall 2017 has so far been very unimpressive to me. I only follow 2 animes this season, and I am even wondering if I should drop those!

Everyone has their own pace, inclinations, and motivation

Inane of me to say, but I feel that's okay. We all have our own lives and shouldn't have to conform to someone else's animu standards for its own sake.

Like if you don't like a show or anything I like, I'll probably make jokes about shit taste, but it's important to make it a clear distinction because to seriously condemn someone on fictional tastes is a road to madness.

Personally, I've been watching less anime as they air due to laziness and time constraints. There's only so much you can watch unless you've gone full NEET and even then it won't be possible. I'd like to watch and read more but time is money.

@about weeb status: I remember some meme chart that discerned what powerlevel of otaku you were.

I feel confident making an accusation that no one here hasn't not fapped to hentai or I'll burn my dakimakura.

Change of topic: Who else here has taken notice of this new anime titled Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte Kara? It's damn hilarious in its cuteness.

Premise for those who aren't familiar: It's basically Sickeningly Sweethearts: The Anime, only the Sickeningly Sweethearts part swings from "cool and self-restrained sweet" to "madly-blushing, talkative and easily embarrassed sweet" through the power of alcohol on the wife's part. Oh, and the hubby is apparently the perfect House Husband.

I don't think I was ever that into anime in the first place, so I'm probably just stuck in the "casual" stage. Case in point: I actually enjoyed Attack On Titan while it was becoming the new hip thing to shit on.

Attack on Titan was one of those anime that even non-anime fans were watching. Those rarely come, and when they do, people hold onto them for all its worth.

Attack on Titan got really popular because of its premise, and it got shit on when it screwed up that premise fairly early on and just didn't have the meat and potatoes of a good story to keep it going.

Well, it turned from a original concept about tiny humans with swords and grappling hook fanny packs fighting giants into basically more of a traditional shonen anime with people - including the main protagonist - just turning into giants to fight other giants. Now, that's not neccessarily a trainwreck as a whole but it meant the series had to rely more on fairly flat characters from then on and without the premise there anymore the wheels kinda came off the bus.

I have a personal axe to grind with the series that gets into the political, but I actually really liked that.

It probably didn't make business sense, but it's super cool how they waited it out before adapting the manga, instead of doing it early and ad-libbing their own ending. Which can work out, since people do like Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, but it would suck for the manga fans.

By the time Season 2 came out, Toonami of course bent over backwards to get it as soon as possible! But by then, two things happened. Some fans were sick of waiting and just quit all together, or the remaining fans didn't care for the dub or cable and just watched the original Japanese version online. Toonami's dub premiere American broadcast got horrible ratings as a result.
