Also, urination.
Speaking of urination, Ange literally pisses herself in her pilot's seat this episode.
I watched, I know.
Goddamnit Fukuda, the epiphany should have been "Norma aren't monsters." Instead we get "I'm enjoying battle, hence I'm a monster too. Oh well!"
Seeing how it is only episode 3, that kind of development is most likely coming. Right now she seems on the path of most Gundam female antagonists.
And then the preview reveals that gratuitous lesbian sex and possible rape of your subordinates is just a thing all Normas seem to do on this island. Again,

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialBut will it involve urination?
The thing that really killed me about this episode is that they tried to pass Zola off as a good person and that we should feel sorry that she died. I mean Ange getting her killed the way she did didn't exactly endear me to our main character (not that anything really has so far), but Zola was a piece of shit. The show wasn't even shy about that, and now they want us to feel bad?
What the actual fuck is going on in this show? Is this Bizarro World anime?

Jesus Yamato will save things. Or not.
Dear Cross Ange writers:
You know why the many deaths in Madoka or Psycho Pass (well, not many in the latter) were effective at reducing grown men to tears? Because they'd seen those characters, they'd seen their motivations, their passions, their fears, their insecurities. Because they cared about the characters. I didn't cry like a little bitch when Mami got her head bitten off just because of the decapitation itself. I didn't cry like a little bitch when Kagari died at the hands of the Destroy Decomposer just because of the decomposition itself. I cried like a little bitch when Mami died because the show established her as a likeable character and as a mentor who deeply cared for our heroine. I cried like a little bitch when Kagari died not only because of his backstory as a social outcast since early youth, but because he was probably one of the nicest characters in the show and had some serious depths as to his character motivations.
So, the thing is: death by itself a Tear Jerker does not make. You first have to take the effort to have the audience know the characters, to explore said characters. You know, to make us care about this character. Adding brutality to the deaths also doesn't help at all; it will just feel forced and manipulative. Not to mention it's lazy writing: the thought process is just "well, I didn't bother to make the audience care about this character. Maybe if the death is painful and brutal they'd care". Hint: no, we fucking won't.
Sincefuckingcerely,
Me
P.D.: The urination scene made me laugh my ass off, although it was probably unintentional.
Ange herself does feel to me like a copy of Jesus Yamato.

Not sure they are trying to get a Tear Jerker, felt they they were just over reinforcing the Crapsack World thing. Like I felt the thing with Zola was meant to be ironic more than anything.
I felt that even Madoka Magica had pacing too quick to make me feel emotionally invested in the character(s) who died (I'm going to avoid saying who to avoid spoilers), actually. (I went into more detail on this in the Madoka Magica thread.)
But yeah, I totally agree with your point — to make a character's death have impact, you gotta make the audience care about the character.

Is there any Chick Magnet character who rejects girls' advances because he is too focused on something else and ain't nobody got time for that?
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I could swear I've seen characters like that, but they're not coming to mind right now.
I think we might be thinking the same character...
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. That's pretty standard for the Celibate Hero trope.
What's precedent ever done for us?>50% of harem protagonists?
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."I would go with 90%.
No, most harem protagonists are just blindingly oblivious, not actively ignoring things on purpose.
While awesome ones like Issei know what he wants.
Watch SymphogearIssei would be scared if he got a harem! Especially with the example of that fox woman.
Hyoudou Issei.
Watch SymphogearIssei a harem protagonist?

Holy crap, Mushishi is good. Like, really good.
It's one thing to hear about how good it is and quite another to experience for yourself.
