Dumb things you used to believe as a kid

I used to think that The Thundermans was a grammatically incorrect spelling of "Thundermen". Turns out that the "Thundermans" refers to the titular family's surname (Thunderman), and are always collectively referred like that.

When I was a kid, I thought that prison ships actually went out to sea.

I thought Mr. Krabs actually said "please tell me that is your nose" during this scene until very recently

I remember having some kind of bread that was baked with alcohol around St. Patrick's Day when I was a kid. Thing was, I was very reluctant to try it because I didn't quite get the concept that the alcohol bakes out of the bread during high temperatures.

That The Little Mermaid (1989) was nothing but sugary fluff for little girls until 2006.

As a kid when I first heard about the Islamic custom in which women conceal their hair when going out in public, I was under the impression that all media exported to Islamic-majority countries was edited to depict female characters with their heads covered.

Early on in the Pokémon anime, I was convinced that Ash had stolen all three starters from Gary (due to the show airing decades before streaming services so I couldn't catch any episodes while I was at school, forcing my parents to set a VCR up for me), and I missed the episodes where he actually caught all three separately.

I'd also forgotten that, like in the games, trainers could only choose ONE Pokémon, and Gary had chosen Squirtle (which had fully evolved when it was revealed later on), so of course he didn't grab all three like the smug little brat that he was.

Funny enough, the "hero stealing other trainers' Pokémon" wouldn't actually happen until Pokémon Colosseum.

When I was searching the "List of Colors" page on Wikipedia back when I was 13/14, here I thought the color "Alice blue" was named after the dress that Alice wore in "Alice in Wonderland".
"Alice blue" was actually named after the favorite color of a debutante gown worn by Theodore Roosevelt's daughter Alice.

Because of Buster and Babs falling through a literal "plot hole" that took them back to Acme Acres in Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation, I used to think that a Plot Hole was another term for a portal and had characters "fall through a plot hole" into other worlds in old stories I made up.

Because of the VeggieTales song "Belly Button", I thought that "HMO" was an article of clothing.

Thinking that "firing" someone involved setting them on fire.

It's a pretty common belief among kids, apparently.

I guess it has something to do with how most people dread being fired. Kids must assume it's something really scary and traumatic. (Sure, it could be that way for some people, but not as scary as being burned.)

Because of the time in Beauty and the Beast where Lumiere sings, "We'll prepare and serve with flair a culinary cabaret!" and there's a bowl of purplish-pinkish liquid, I thought a cabaret was... well, a bowl of edible, purplish-pinkish liquid.

I once thought videogames worked like finite-state machines, in which every frame is premade and drawn from memory. It came from a televised interview with a developer who said they had to check every possible gameplay state; he was likely referring to debugging.

I think almost everyone can attest to assuming that "sleeping with" someone just meant lying down next to them and taking a nap. Even to this day, I still have a tendency to picture that definition first whenever I hear the term "sleeping with".

For many of the same reasons (and I think because I saw a Sexy Discretion Shot represented this way at least once), I also went a while thinking that sex is when people lie down in bed while holding hands. Thankfully, I learned otherwise before I had the chance to do anything like accidentally touch hands with someone while sitting on a bed and then proceed to freak out after realizing what I thought had just done.

I thought giving a BJ literally just meant... blowing on someone. Took me wayyyy too long to learn the truth.
